A method and apparatus for network connection and maintenance having reduced connection time, increased probability of successful connection, and increased reliability once connected. A second communication protocol is added to network devices, so that two connection-related operations are performed during overlapping periods of time, thereby reducing required connection time while increasing probability of successful connection. Once a device is connected to the network, network maintenance messages, including re-keying requests and 'keep-alive' messages, may be sent via the second communication protocol during periods of network congestion, increasing network reliability.

Network connection and maintenance

A first communication apparatus dynamically controls data flow in aggregated medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (AMPDU) aggregation by negotiating an initial block acknowledgement (Block-ACK) window size for the AMPDU aggregation with the second communication apparatus. The first communication apparatus adjusts the AMPDU aggregation during subsequent communication with the second communication apparatus by creating a Block-ACK frame with a reserved field, which has a value indicating a change to the AMPDU aggregation, and then transmitting the Block-ACK frame to the second communication apparatus.

Dynamic flow control in AMPDU aggregation in wireless communications

A method and an apparatus pertaining to power-save operations for the apparatus may involve a processor of the apparatus transmitting, via a transmitter of the apparatus, a power-save request to one or more communication devices associated with the apparatus. The processor may receive, via a receiver of the apparatus, an acknowledgment from each of the one or more communication devices. The processor may cause the apparatus to enter a power-save mode in response to receiving the acknowledgment from each of the one or more communication devices.
