The invention is based on controlling operations of an earthmoving machine controllable by the operator by using only one to four controllers and at least one displaying means for displaying controls selectable and controllable by the one to four controllers. The selections and controls of the operations for controlling the earthmoving machine may be transmitted to the control unit both by wire and wirelessly. Thus, the one to four controllers are operable both attached and detached. Further, the control system is arranged to determine the location of the one to four controllers with respect to the earthmoving machine.

Controlling earthmoving machines

A BEIM (Built Environment Information Model)-based control system (CS) for controlling an earthmoving machine (E) is disclosed. The control system includes at least one controller (CO) for controlling at least one movement of an earthmoving tool () attached to the earthmoving machine, at least one control unit (CU), and sensing means () for providing the control unit with position data of the earthmoving tool and a carrier () of the earthmoving machine with respect to the BEIM. The control system also includes at least one displaying means for displaying at least one BEIM selectable by the at least one controller. An earthmoving machine and a method for controlling an earthmoving machine are also disclosed.

Controlling earthmoving machine

A positioning system and a method of positioning a construction machine on a work site include at least one reference point on the work site. Position data of the reference point is determined in a work site coordinate system and input to a control unit of the construction machine. A tool is calibration positioned in accordance with the reference point in order to connect a machine coordinate system to the work coordinate system.

The displaying means includes a transparent display unit for displaying virtual earth-moving images. The images are displayed at a virtual image distance from the displaying unit.

A mobile earth moving machine includes a carrier, at least one machine element movable relative to the carrier, a positioning system for determining 3D position and orientation data of the earth moving machine, at least one sensing device for determining position and orientation data of the movable machine element, at least one range finder device for detecting at least one object in a field of the range finder device and providing point cloud output of the object, and at least one control unit configured to receive and process the produced data. The range finder device is a solid-state device without internal movable mechanical elements, whereby the device is without internal scanning equipment. The range finder device is arranged on the movable machine element and is configured to be moved together with the movable machine element.
