A skull-mounted drug and pressure sensor (SOS), a smart pump (ISP) electrically coupled to the SOS and a drug delivery and communications catheter communicating the SOS with the ISP are combined for a first embodiment. A skull-mounted (SOS), a metronomic biofeedback pump (MBP) electrically coupled to the SOS and a drug delivery and communications catheter having a sending and receiving optical fiber communicating the SOS with the MBP are combined for a second embodiment. A third embodiment combines a (SOS), an implantable power and communication unit (PCU) electrically coupled to the SOS, and a drug delivery and communications catheter for communicating the SOS with the PCU and for communicating the exterior source of the drug to the SOS. A fourth embodiment combines a ventricular catheter with a CSF accessible chamber and drug delivery port; and an implantable stand-alone skull-mounted drug and pressure sensor (SPS).

Skull-mounted drug and pressure sensor

A connector for connecting an implant device to tissue of a person's body. The connector including a frame having first and second arms. The first and second arms define an opening, where at least a portion of the implant device is inserted through the opening. After insertion, an additional securing member is connected to the frame. The securing member is adapted to receive at least one suture to secure the frame to the tissue. The connector includes an adjuster that is movably connected to the first and second arms, where the adjuster is operable to cause the first and second arms to move toward each other and engage the implant device.

Implant connector

An implantable medical lead is disclosed herein. The lead may include a body and an electrical pathway. The body may include a distal portion with an electrode and a proximal portion with a lead connector end. The electrical pathway may extend between the electrode and lead connector end and may include a coiled inductor including first and second electrically conductive filar cores. The first and second filar cores may be physically joined into a unified single piece proximal terminal on a proximal end of the coiled inductor. The first and second cores may be physically joined into a unified single piece distal terminal on a distal end of the coiled inductor. The first and second filar cores may be helically wound into a coiled portion between the proximal and distal terminals, the filar cores being electrically isolated from each other in the coiled portion. The proximal terminal may be electrically coupled to a portion of the electrical pathway extending to the lead connector end, and the distal terminal may be electrically coupled to a portion of the electrical pathway extending to the electrode.

MRI compatible implantable medical lead and method of making same

An implantable lead assembly includes an elongated body, a bobbin, and a conductor. The elongated body includes a distal end having an electrode and a proximal end having a header connector portion for coupling the elongated body with an implantable medical device. The bobbin is disposed in the elongated body. The conductor is disposed in the elongated body and is electrically coupled with the header connector portion and the electrode. The conductor is wound around the bobbin to form first and second inductive coils that are axially separated from each other by an inter-coil gap formed from the bobbin. The first and second inductive coils have different self resonant frequencies.

Implantable lead assembly having a plurality of inductors

An implantable medical lead is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the lead includes a body and an electrical pathway. The body may include a distal portion with an electrode and a proximal portion with a lead connector end. The electrical pathway may extend between the electrode and lead connector end and include a coiled inductor including a first portion and a second portion at least partially magnetically decoupled from the first portion. The first portion may include a first configuration having a first SRF. The second portion may include a second configuration different from the first configuration. The second configuration may have a second SRF different from the first SRF. For example, the first SRF may be near 64 MHz and the second SRF may be near 128 MHz.

In accordance with an embodiment, an implantable lead assembly is provided comprised of an elongated body including a distal end, a proximal end having a header connector portion for coupling the elongated body with an implantable medical device, and an intermediate segment located between the distal and proximal ends. An intermediate electrode is disposed at the intermediate segment along the elongated body. A conductor is disposed in the elongated body and electrically coupled with the header connector portion and the intermediate electrode. The conductor wound within the intermediate segment to form first and second inductive coils that are axially separated from each other by an inter-coil gap, wherein the first and second inductive coils have different self-resonant frequencies.

An implant tool for use with an endocardial or other implantable lead having an extendable/retractable active fixation tip includes a housing, a shaft rotatably supported by the housing, and a shaft rotation mechanism for rotating the shaft through a predetermined angular travel. The shaft includes a lead attachment portion for selectively coupling a lead to the shaft such that the lead is rotatable with the shaft. The implant tool may include a control tab slidably supported by the housing, wherein longitudinal movement of the control tab actuates the shaft rotation mechanism. The shaft rotation mechanism may include a gear train, an electric motor, a double acting spring mechanism, or a retractable tape wound around the shaft. The gear train includes an input member coupled to the control tab and an output gear coupled to the shaft. The input member meshes with an input gear supported by the housing.

Implant tool for active fixation lead

An implantable medical lead configured for improved MRI safety and heating reduction performance is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the lead includes a tubular body having a proximal end and a distal end with a lead connector near the proximal end. In this embodiment the lead further includes a conductor extending longitudinally within the tubular body and having a proximal end that is electrically coupled to the connector and a distal end electrically coupled to a contact pin. The lead in this embodiment further includes a filter element electrically coupled to a distal end of the contact pin and a flange electrically coupled between a proximal end of the filter element and a proximal portion of an electrode. In this embodiment the flange and the proximal portion of the electrode form at least a first part of a hermetic chamber enclosing the filter element.

Implantable medical lead configured for improved MRI safety and heating reduction performance

A lead implanted across a heart wall such as an atrial septum includes structure for fixation to the wall. In some embodiments the distal end of the lead includes a sensor for measuring quantities such as pressure at a distal side of the wall. The fixation structures may be positioned on opposite sides of the wall after implant. The fixation structures may be aligned with the lead during delivery of the lead to the implant site and expanded from the lead at the implant site.

Apparatus and method for transseptal fixation

An implantable lead includes a lead body, having a distal end and a proximal end, configured to be implanted in a patient. An electrode assembly is provided at the distal end of the lead body, wherein the electrode assembly includes an electrode that is configured to deliver stimulating pulses. The electrode extends between a base and a tip at a distal end of the electrode. A shielding member is provided on the electrode assembly and is positioned to cover at least a portion of the electrode to electrically shield the electrode from RF fields. Optionally, the shielding member may include a shielding conductor that wraps about and extends longitudinally along a length of the electrode from the base to the tip. The shielding conductor may extend from the proximal end of the lead body at least to the distal end of the lead body.

MRI-compatible implantable lead having high impedance electrodes

An implantable cardiac electrotherapy lead is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the lead includes a tubular body having a distal end with a first soft resilient member. The member extends or is extendable from the distal end radially outward relative to a longitudinal axis of the tubular body.

Reduced perforation distal tip for an implantable cardiac electrotherapy lead

A flow rate controller is provided for regulating the flow rate of medication delivered to a patient by an implantable medication infusion pump of the constant flow type, to minimize or prevent flow rate increases attributable to fluctuations in ambient pressure. The infusion pump comprises an implantable pump housing with a pressurized medication reservoir therein for continuous flow delivery to the patient through a baseline flow path including a restrictor such as a capillary tube. The controller comprises a pressure responsive control valve for connecting a secondary restrictor such as an additional capillary tube in series with the baseline flow path, to prevent undesired increase in the medication flow rate in the event that the patient temporarily encounters a high altitude ambient pressure.
