A power management system for an elevator system. A power management system for an elevator system includes a power converter having three input terminals, two of the three input terminals coupled to a main power source for supplying single-phase AC power to the power management system, the power converter configured to convert the AC power from the main power source into DC power on a common DC bus, a secondary power source for supplying DC power to the common DC bus, a power inverter configured to invert the DC power on the common DC bus into AC output power for driving an electric motor of the elevator system, and a dynamic braking resistor which is coupled between a third input terminal among the three input terminals of the three-phase power converter and the common DC bus.

Power management in an elevator system

There is provided a system for providing (e.g., configured to provide) power to one or more loads. The system comprises a plurality of power converters, wherein each power converter is configured to be arranged in a parallel configuration with one or more additional power converters so as to provide power to the one or more loads. The system further comprises a central controller configured to receive a plurality of local current measurement values from each of the power converters, output a global current measurement value based on the local current measurement values, and transmit the global current measurement value to each of the power converters, wherein each power converter comprises an inverter for receiving an input voltage and converting this to an output voltage having one or more associated output current(s).

Distributed control architecture for motor drives

A proportional integrator for control of a motor drive arranged to be connected in parallel with one or more other motor drives to drive a common load. The proportional integrator includes means to receive an input command signal and to compare with a local measured signal from the motor drive and to output a local control signal for that motor drive. Also includes are a global input signal indicative of the behaviour of the one or more other motor drives, the global input signal being incorporated into the proportional integral function with the input command signal and the local measured signal to provide the local control signal.

Control structures for parallel motor drive control architectures

A system for providing power to one or more loads includes a plurality of power converters where each power converter is configured to be arranged in a parallel configuration with one or more additional power converters so as to provide power to the one or more loads. A power management system comprises an AC-power-source controller configured to control power supply between the AC power source and a common DC bus, the AC-power-source controller further configured to limit AC power supplied from the AC power source to the common DC bus to a first AC-power-source power limit; a power inverter configured to invert the DC power on the common DC bus into AC output power for driving the electric motor; a DC power source configured to supply DC power to the common DC bus; and a DC-power-source controller configured to control power supply between the DC power source and the common DC bus, the DC-power-source controller further configured to start supplying DC power from the DC power source to the common DC bus in response to a detection of a voltage drop on the common DC bus from a AC-power-source reference voltage to a DC-power-source reference voltage.

Decentralized power management in an elevator system

A power converter for providing power to one or more loads, wherein the power converter is configured to be arranged in a parallel configuration with one or more additional power converters. The power converter comprises an inverter for receiving an input voltage and converting this to an output voltage having an associated output current, a module configured to modulate the output voltage using a modulation scheme and first and second feedback circuits.

Distributed current balancing control

The present disclosure provides a system and method that provides active damping at the input of a motor drive system without the need for the hardware used in conventional and RC damping circuits. According to the disclosure a virtual damping network is realised at the input of the motor drive system based on modification of field-oriented control, FOC. More specifically, a control algorithm creates a virtual damping impedance at the motor drive input by applying a damping algorithm to both q and d components of the motor current.

Active stabilization of DC link in motor drive systems

A solid state power controller, SSPC, having an input to receive supply current and an output for providing output current to a load in response to connection to the power supply, the solid state power controller further comprising at least one solid state switch and a controller to limit the power dissipated in the solid state power switch based on a measured voltage across the solid state switch and a predetermined power dissipation threshold for the SSPC to adjust the output current or voltage control signal of the solid state switch such that the actual power dissipation of the SSPC does not exceed the threshold.

Inrush current limiting system and method

A power converter gate driver arrangement for providing a power output and a switching output for switching, in use, one or more switching devices, wherein the switching devices are controlled from a digital core via isolated point-to-point RF drivers. The gate driver uses UHF band technology to transmit both signal and power through a low capacitance single resonator by signal and power modulation. Power is transmitted in a continuous manner.

A power converter system comprising a power source; a plurality of voltage source converters for driving respective loads; the plurality of voltage converters connected to the power source via a common DC-link, control means () for driving the voltage source converters by means of respective control signals modulated onto respective modulation carriers; and means for synchronizing the control means such that the respective modulation carriers are interleaved with a selected phase shift therebetween.

Motor drive system

A system and method includes parallel power converters, at least one current sensor, and a first feedback control circuit. A first power converter is configured to convert a first input power to a first output power, and is controlled using pulse width modulation having a first switching period. One or more second power converters are connected in parallel with the first power converter and configured to convert a second input power to a second output power. The first output power and the second output power are provided to a load. The at least one current sensor is positioned to sense first output current of the first output power, and the first feedback control circuit is configured to calculate a first metric based on the first sensed current at each of a plurality of first edges of each half switching period of the first switching period, and at intermediate points between each of the plurality of first edges. The first feedback control circuit is configured to adjust the first switching period based upon the first metric.

Feedback control for parallel power converter synchronization

A system for modulating a current level of a power grid includes a perturbation module that injects a sinusoidal signal, at a cross-over frequency, to modulate a duty cycle to a power converter connected to the power grid; a current controller that monitors a reference current and a current at grid-side terminal of the power converter, the current controller further monitors a current of the power grid; and a parameter calculation module that calculates a plurality of gain values for the current controller based at least in part on a phase margin, a cross-over frequency, a current of an alternating current side of the power converter, and the duty cycle.
