A system for blending cement and at least one additive during a blending job to create a cement slurry for use in an underground hydrocarbon well includes a mixing tub, at least first and second blenders and a rotatable platform upon which the blenders are mounted. Each blender includes at least one elongated, rotatable, mixing blade extending into the tub to mix the cement and at the additive(s) to form the cement slurry.

System, apparatus and methods for blending cement

A multi-function testing apparatus contains a test cell, a piston positioned within the test cell and an adjustable piston depth-setting rod. The testing apparatus may be used to assess carbon dioxide resistance and hydraulic bonding strength of a set cement as well as to evaluate the self-healing capabilities of a set cement. Testing on the set cement may be conducted at simulated downhole conditions.

Multi-function testing apparatus for cement and methods of using the same

An apparatus for determining shear bond strength of a cement to be set within a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation consists of a housing, a vertical rod which extends from the uppermost portion of the housing through the lowermost portion of the housing, a base plate for positioning onto the bottom of the housing and for supporting the lowermost portion of the vertical rod, and a test plate for positioning onto the top of the housing through which the uppermost portion of the vertical rod extends. The apparatus may further contain a push rod. Shear bond strength is determined by introducing into the housing a sample core of the formation prior to introduction of a slurry containing the cement. The force required to break the bond between the vertical rod and the set cement may be used to determine the shear strength between the casing within the wellbore and the set cement when the cement is hardened within the wellbore. The force required to break the bond between the set cement and the sample core may be used to determine the shear strength between the set cement and formation core when the cement is hardened within the wellbore.

Method of measuring shear bond strength of cement

Cement compositions containing an expandable material are disclosed. The compositions are suitable for use in oil and gas wells. An example of such an expandable material is a polymer encapsulated chemical that expands upon heating. Examples of cement compositions containing polymer encapsulated isobutane or isopentane are disclosed. The use of cement compositions containing an expandable material can reduce the formation of micro-annulus or other deleterious physical properties in the set cement.

A method of testing and a tester apparatus to determine the axial stress and strain of cements under the temperature and pressures encountered by cement during use in wellbore environments. Using these stress and strain measurements, the Young's Modulus may be established for a material at the encountered temperature and pressure of the wellbore. By combining static tensile strength testing and elasticity measurements of cements, Young's Modulus values for different cement compositions under stresses that are similar to the conditions occurring in an actual wellbore are possible.

The apparatus includes a sensor to measure the movement of the first and second sections relative to one another in response to volumetric changes in the cement. Also described is a method of measuring the volumetric changes in cement as the cement is exposed to simulated down-hole pressures and temperatures in a high-pressure, high-temperature chamber.

Cement expansion/contraction test apparatus

Cement compositions for cementing wellbores in cold environments. The cement compositions may include a mixture of a reactive aluminum silicate, aluminum sulfate and hydraulic cement, and may include one or more other additives. The cement compositions may be formulated to have reduced heat of hydration as compared to conventional cements, making them suited for cementing in permafrost environments. The cement slurries may optionally be foamed using a foaming agent and energizing phase.
