A network device may be configured to provide a gateway between a remote host and a mobile node using multiple interconnection protocols. The network device may include database circuitry configured to query a database for a first or second address of a mobile node using a domain name of the mobile node. The addresses may be associated with different interconnection protocols. The network device may include communication interface circuitry configured to receive a request from a remote host to communicate with the mobile node. The request may include the domain name. The interface circuitry may also be configured to transmit a message indicating the request using the first address, and transmit the second address to the remote host so that the remote host can communicate with the mobile node using the second address. The message may include a command to establish a data bearer through the second address.

Managed access to mobile endpoints

In one implementation, a method for managing access to mobile endpoints leverages the always-on nature of a first internet layer protocol to expand the reach of a second internet layer protocol. A network device receives a request originating from a remote host. The request includes a domain name of a mobile endpoint. The network device queries a database using the domain name for a first address of the mobile endpoint as designated according to the first internet layer protocol. The network device transmits a wake up message to the mobile endpoint using the first address. A data bearer for communication with the second internet layer protocol is established based on the wake up message, and a second address is assigned to the mobile endpoint. The second address is forwarded to the remote host, allowing communication between the remote host and the mobile endpoint.

Providing a mobility key for a communication session for a mobile station includes facilitating initiation of the communication session. A master key for the communication session is established, where the master key is generated at an authentication server in response to authenticating the mobile station. A mobility key is derived from the authentication key at an access node, where the mobility key is operable to authenticate mobility signaling for the communication session.

A network system for authorizing an endpoint node for a communication service includes an operator network and an organization network. The operator network operates to perform a device authorization operation to authorize the endpoint node for a communication session. The organization network operates to facilitate a service authorization operation to authorize the endpoint node for the communication service of the communication session.

A method for distributing information in a network environment is provided that includes receiving a communication flow and executing a routing decision for the communication flow that directs the communication flow to a selected one of a plurality of servers. The routing decision is based on a selected one or more user-specified parameters and on one or more data segments that reflect feedback associated with one or more of the servers. The feedback indicates one or more conditions associated with one or more of the servers.

System and method for distributing information in a network environment

Facilitating node mobility includes facilitating a communication session for a mobile node communicated along a first communication path. A first anchor point manages context information for the communication session, where the context information comprises information for supporting the communication session. A command to transfer the context information to a second anchor point is received from a home agent. The second anchor point is operable to facilitate communication of the communication session along a second communication path. The context information is transferred in response to the command.

Requesting a network resource includes facilitating a communication session between a mobile node and an endpoint. A trigger event is received at a first anchor point associated with the mobile node. The trigger event indicates that reservation of a network resource is being requested for the communication session. A second anchor point associated with the endpoint is identified. Reservation of the network resources for the communication sessions is initiated over a tunnel between the first anchor point and the second anchor point.

Obtaining neighborhood information for a cell includes establishing the presence of a mobile node in a first cell having a first cell site. A communication session for the mobile node is facilitated. Neighborhood information is determined in response to facilitating the communication session. The neighborhood information describes a second cell having a second cell site. The neighborhood information is recorded in a neighborhood information record.

Dynamically obtaining neighborhood information

Supporting communication sessions at a mobile node includes determining at a mobile node an address for one or more interior network elements of a network system. A interior network element is distinct from an edge network element of the network system, and is operable to establish a communication session. An address for an interior network element is inserted into packets. The packets are sent from the mobile node to the interior network element to communicate directly with the interior network element. The communication session is established using the interior network element.

Supporting communication sessions at a mobile node

Authorizing a mobile node for a service includes receiving at an enforcement point a session initiation invitation from the mobile node. The session initiation invitation comprises an authorization token and a session initiation object. Whether the mobile node is authorized to access a service is determined in accordance with the authorization token. The authorization token is sent to an authorization server if the mobile node is authorized to access the service. The session initiation object is sent to a server to initiate the service if the mobile node is authorized to access the service.

Authorizing a mobile node for service

A method for distributing information in a network environment is provided that includes receiving one or more packets from a communication flow and recognizing a universal generic identification (UGI) associated with the communication flow. The UGI corresponds to an end user that is associated with the communication flow. The UGI is operable to enable a service for the end user in a first network and a second network, the first and second networks being different, whereby either the first network or the second network operates as a home network for the end user.
