A system for performing peak current mitigation in an application programming subsystem (APSS) dynamically performs mitigation based at least in part on power rail voltage and leakage current obtained at boot time. The voltage and leakage current obtained at boot time are used to estimate peak current. A map that is generated prior to boot time maps estimated peak current to throttling level and dictates different levels of throttling to be performed for different ranges of estimated peak current. At boot time, the map is used to map the estimated peak current to a level of throttling to be applied. If conditions at run time indicate that peak current is occurring or is likely to occur soon, the mapped level of throttling is applied to mitigate the peak current.

Systems and methods for mitigating peak current and improving overall performance

Various embodiments of systems and methods are disclosed for reducing volatile memory standby power in a portable computing device. One such method involves receiving a request for a volatile memory device to enter a standby power mode. One or more compression parameters are determined for compressing content stored in a plurality of banks of the volatile memory device. The stored content is compressed based on the one or more compression parameters to free-up at least one of the plurality of banks. The method disables self-refresh of at least a portion of one or more of the plurality of banks freed-up by the compression during the standby power mode.

A method and an apparatus for system acquisition at a wireless device while maintaining a predetermined battery life span, include determining a level of remaining battery power upon entering an out of service state. A duty cycle, comprising a search time and sleep time, of acquisition attempts is determined such that the level of remaining battery power lasts for the defined battery life span. The duty cycle is determined by adjusting at least one of the search time and the sleep time, depending on how long the remaining battery power is required to last.

An apparatus for detecting the presence of a frequency channel is provided. The apparatus comprises an energy detection unit configured to measure receive energy over a first bandwidth and a second energy detection unit configured to measure receive energy over a second bandwidth. The apparatus further comprises a processor configured to compare the measured receive energy over the first bandwidth to a first energy threshold, to compare the measured receive energy over the second bandwidth to a second energy threshold, and to detect the presence of the frequency channel when the measured receive energies over the first and second bandwidths are above the first and second energy thresholds, respectively.

A wireless device detects for an adverse channel condition, which may be (1) a frequent out of service (FOOS) condition indicative of frequent in and out of service or (2) an unbalanced forward/reverse link condition indicative of unbalanced coverage for the forward and reverse links. A FOOS condition may be detected based on an average in-service time, the number of lost system connections, the number of systems to which connections have been made, the rate of change for the systems, the altitude of the wireless device, and/or other parameters. An unbalanced forward/reverse link condition may be detected based on the average in-service time, the number of system access failures, and/or other parameters. The wireless device performs at least one action to conserve battery power if an adverse channel condition is detected. The action(s) may include performing system acquisition less frequently, disabling system registration, performing registration less frequently, and/or going to sleep.

Method and apparatus for detecting adverse channel conditions and conserving power

A method and apparatus for channel acquisition using a mobile station include obtaining geographic information of at least one wireless communication systems using one or more systems, respectively. The one or more channels are prioritized on a preferred roaming list based on the geographic information, and it is determined whether any of the prioritized one or more channels on the preferred roaming list are also on a most recently used (MRU) list. The mobile station attempts to acquire at least one of the prioritized one or more channels that is also on the MRU list.

Method and apparatus for channel scanning that improves acquisition probability and power consumption
