A method for load sharing class 1 SCCP messages includes receiving a class 1 SCCP message requiring global title translation (GTT). The method includes performing GTT for the message to select a load sharing group for the message. The method further includes generating a message signal unit (MSU) load sharing key using parameters from a combination of message transfer part (MTP) layer parameters and signaling connection control part (SCCP) layer parameters. The method further includes using the MSU load sharing key to select a destination address from the load sharing group for the message. The method further includes inserting the destination address into the message. The method further includes routing the message to a destination corresponding to the destination address.

A method for conducting a velocity check for outbound subscribers roaming to neighboring countries includes receiving, by a network gateway associated with a home country from an MSC associated with a neighboring country, an ingress signaling message related to a mobile device roaming in the neighboring country, sending, to an HLR in the home country, an interrogation request message containing a mobile subscriber identifier, and receiving an interrogation response message containing age of location information and cell identifier information corresponding to the mobile subscriber identifier. The method further includes utilizing the cell identifier information and a country code identifier included in the ingress signaling message to determine two latitude-longitude positions, determining an estimated transit time of the mobile device using the two latitude-longitude reference positions, and comparing age of location information with the estimated transit time to determine if the ingress signaling message is to be forwarded to the HLR.

A method for implementing indirect GTP firewall filtering includes using a signaling message routing node to dynamically populate an indirect GTP-C firewall filtering database with IMSIs and VPLMN IDs extracted from mobility management signaling messages for updating the locations of outbound roaming subscribers. The method further includes receiving a CCR-I message generated in response to a GTP-C message. The method further includes extracting an IMSI and a VPLMN ID from the CCR-I message. The method further includes accessing the indirect GTP-C firewall filtering database using the IMSI extracted from the CCR-I message. The method further includes determining that a record corresponding to the IMSI is present in the indirect GTP-C firewall filtering database. The method further includes determining that a VPLMN ID in the record does not match the VPLMN ID extracted from the CCR-I message. The method further includes, in response to determining that the VPLMN ID in the record does not match the VPLMN ID extracted from the CCR-I message, rejecting the CCR-I message.

A method for distributing Sigtran connections among signal transfer point (STP) message processors includes providing a connection load balancer as a front end to plural message processors of an STP. The method further includes publishing, by the connection load balancer, an Internet protocol (IP) address to SS7 peers. The method further includes initializing the message processors of the STP to listen on the IP address published by the connection load balancer. The method further includes receiving, at the connection load balancer, a Sigtran message addressed to the IP address. The method further includes determining, by the connection load balancer, whether the Sigtran message is an initial message for a Sigtran connection or a subsequent message for a Sigtran connection and whether the Sigtran connection has been assigned to one of the message processors. The method further includes forwarding the message to one of the message processors or dropping the message based on whether the message is an initial message or a subsequent message and based on whether the connection has been assigned to one of the message processors.

A method for authenticating a mobility management entity (MME) for outbound roaming subscribers includes maintaining a Diameter authentication information request (AIR)/update location request (ULR) mapping database at a Diameter edge agent (DEA). A Diameter AIR message is received at the DEA. The DEA determines that the AIR message includes a visited public land mobile network identifier (VPLMN ID) not of record in the database. The DEA records the VPLMN ID in the database. A Diameter ULR message is received at the DEA, and a VPLMN ID is read from the ULR message. The DEA determines that the VPLMN ID read from the ULR message does not match the VPLMN ID recorded for the subscriber in the database. In response to determining that the VPLMN ID does not match the VPLMN ID recorded for the subscriber in the database, the DEA rejects the ULR message.

A method includes maintaining a VLR validation database accessible by an SS7 STP and receiving, by the STP, a MAP SAI request message. The method also includes determining that the MAP SAI request message includes a VLR identifier not recorded in the VLR validation database accessible by the STP and recording the VLR identifier in the VLR validation database. The method further includes receiving a first MAP LU request message and detecting a VLR identifier in the first MAP LU request message and determining that the VLR identifier read from the first MAP LU request message does not match the VLR identifier recorded for a subscriber in the VLR validation database. In response to determining that the VLR identifier does not match the VLR identifier recorded for the subscriber in the VLR validation database, the first MAP LU request message is rejected.
