Heart strain determination includes receiving a series of 2D-slice images as input. A pose estimation module estimates a slicing-pose of the inputted series of 2D-slice images in the heart. A 3D deformation estimation module estimates a 3D deformation field from the series of 2D-slice images and the estimated slicing-pose. A strain measurement module computes a heart strain measure from the 3D deformation field and a predefined definition for strain computation.

Systems and methods for estimating local conductivities from anatomical information derived from MR images, ECG, and sparse contact maps are provided. ECG features and sparse measurements are mapped to an anatomical model represented as a graph. Graph convolutional layers and a multilayer perceptron are applied to extract local and global features respectively. The local and global features are combined and further processed by a series of fully connected layers to regress a set of vertex conductivities.

Real-time estimation of local cardiac tissue properties and uncertainties based on imaging and electro-anatomical maps

A method, apparatus, and computer readable storage medium are provided herein for constructing a representation of an annular structure associated with an anatomical object. The method includes receiving three-dimensional image data of the anatomical object and detecting at least a first landmark point and a second landmark point on the annular structure. A plane positioned between the first landmark point and the second landmark point, and oriented in accordance with a predefined angular relationship to a line connecting the first landmark point and the second landmark point is determined. A third landmark point on the annular structure which lies in the plane is also detected and the representation of the annular structure is generated using at least the first landmark point, the second landmark point, and the third landmark point. The representation is then outputted.

Systems and methods for generating an ablation map identifying target ablation locations on a heart of a patient are provided. One or more input medical images of a heart of a patient and a voltage map of the heart of the patient are received. An ablation map identifying target ablation locations on the heart is generated using one or more trained machine learning based models based on the one or more input medical images and the voltage map. A system and method for medical image based patient-specific ischemic stroke risk prediction is disclosed. Left atrium (LA) and left atrium appendage (LAA) measurements are extracted from medical image data of a patient. Derived metrics for the LA and LAA of the patient are computed using a patient-specific computational model of cardiac function based on the LA and LAA measurements extracted from the medical image data of the patient. A stroke risk score for the patient is calculated based on the extracted LA and LAA measurements and the computed derived metrics for the LA and LAA of the patient using a trained machine learning based classifier, which inputs the extracted LA and LAA measurements and the computed derived metrics for the LA and LAA as features.

A method for determining a wall property of an artery such as an aorta includes acquiring patient data and extracting physical data from the patient data. The physical data is applied to a blood flow model of the aorta to obtain an individual blood flow model. A method and system for interactive patient-specific simulation of liver tumor ablation is disclosed. A patient-specific anatomical model of the liver and circulatory system of the liver is estimated from 3D medical image data of a patient. A computational domain is generated from the patient-specific anatomical model of the liver. Blood flow in the liver and the circulatory system of the liver is simulated based on the patient-specific anatomical model. Heat diffusion due to ablation is simulated based on a virtual ablation probe position and the simulated blood flow in the liver and the circulatory system of the liver by solving a bio-heat equation for each node on the level-set representation using a Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) implementation. Cellular necrosis in the liver is computed based on the simulated heat diffusion. Visualizations of a computed necrosis region and temperature maps of the liver are generated. A user input is interactively received to modify the position of the virtual ablation probe, the heat diffusion and cellular necrosis is re-simulated based on the user input, and the visualizations of the computed necrosis region and the temperature maps are updated.

System and method for interactive patient specific simulation of radiofrequency ablation therapy

A network is machine trained to estimate flow by spatial location based on input of anatomy information. A medical scan of tissue may be used to generate flow information without the delay or difficulty of performing a medical scan configured for flow imaging or CFD. Anatomy imaging is used to provide flow estimates with the speed provided by the machine-learned network.

For soft tissue deformation prediction, a biomechanical or other tissue-related physics model is used to find an instantaneous state of the soft tissue. A machine-learned artificial neural network is applied to predict the position of volumetric elements (e.g., mesh node) from the instantaneous state. Since the machine-learned artificial neural network may predict quickly (e.g., in a second or less), the soft tissue position at different times or a further time given the instantaneous state is provided in real-time without the minutes of physics model computation. For example, a real-time, biomechanical solver is provided, allowing interaction with the soft tissue model, while still getting accurate results. The accuracy allows for generating images of a soft tissue with greater accuracy and/or the benefit of user interaction in real-time.

Real-time and accurate soft tissue deformation prediction

A method and system for personalized computation of tissue ablation extent based on medical images of a patient is disclosed. A patient-specific anatomical model of the liver and liver vessels is estimated from medical image data of a patient. Blood flow in the liver and liver vessels is simulated. An ablation simulation is performed that uses a bio-heat model to simulate heat diffusion due to an ablation based on the simulated blood flow and a cellular necrosis model to simulate cellular necrosis in the liver based on the simulated heat diffusion. Personalized tissue parameters of the bio-heat model and the cellular necrosis model are estimated based on observed results of a preliminary ablation procedure. Planning of the ablation procedure is then performed using the personalized bio-heat equation and the cellular necrosis model. The model can be subsequently refined as more ablation observations are obtained.

System and method for personalized computation of tissue ablation extent based on medical images

A medical system is provided for three-dimensional hemodynamic quantification. Comprehensive three-dimensional (3D) plus time (3D+t) assessment of flow patterns inside the heart are provided by a combination of lumped-parameter modeling and computational flow dynamic modeling. Using medical scanning, the lumped parameter model is personalized to a given patient. The personalized lumped-parameter model provides pressure curves (i.e., pressure as a function of time) for one or more locations. Using geometry of the patients heart segmented from the medical scanning and the pressure curves as boundary conditions, the computational flow dynamics model calculates the absolute pressure for any location (e.g., for a three-dimensional field of locations) in the patient heart at any one or more phases of the cardiac cycle. More accurate absolute pressure may be provided without invasive measurement.

Three-dimensional quantitative heart hemodynamics in medical imaging

A method and apparatus for extracting centerline representations of vascular structures in medical images is disclosed. A vessel orientation tensor for each of a plurality of voxels associated with the target vessel, such as a coronary artery, in a medical image, such as a coronary tomography angiography (CTA) image, using a trained vessel orientation tensor classifier. A flow field is estimated for the plurality of voxels associated with the target vessel in the medical image based on the vessel orientation tensor estimated for each of the plurality of voxels. A centerline of the target vessel is extracted based on the estimated flow field for the plurality of vessels associated with the target vessel in the medical image by detecting a path that carries maximum flow.

Method and system for extracting centerline representation of vascular structures in medical images via optimal paths in computational flow fields

A method and system for multi-scale anatomical and functional modeling of coronary circulation is disclosed. A patient-specific anatomical model of coronary arteries and the heart is generated from medical image data of a patient. A multi-scale functional model of coronary circulation is generated based on the patient-specific anatomical model. Blood flow is simulated in at least one stenosis region of at least one coronary artery using the multi-scale function model of coronary circulation. Hemodynamic quantities, such as fractional flow reserve (FFR), are computed to determine a functional assessment of the stenosis, and virtual intervention simulations are performed using the multi-scale function model of coronary circulation for decision support and intervention planning.

Method and system for multi-scale anatomical and functional modeling of coronary circulation

In order to assess coronary artery disease from medical image data, an anatomical model of a coronary artery is generated from the medical image data. A velocity of blood in the coronary artery is estimated based on a spatio-temporal representation of contrast agent propagation in the medical image data. Blood flow is simulated in the anatomical model of the coronary artery using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation using the estimated velocity of the blood in the coronary artery as a boundary condition.
