A method manages the state of a plurality of micro base stations inside a mobile communication network. The network comprises at least a macro cell containing at least one Tracking Area covering a plurality of micro cells each one associated with a micro base station. The method to manage the states of micro cells comprises the steps of: switching on of all the micro base stations contained in said Tracking Area of the macro cell, counting of the messages of paging to determine the number of portable devices in Idle mode inside said Tracking Area, and switching off at least one micro base station in the Tracking Area when the number of portable devices in Idle mode in the said Tracking Area is lower than a first determined value. According to an improvement, the switching on of all the micro base stations contained in a Tracking Area is triggered when the current load of the macro cell exceeds a second determined value.

The present invention relates to a method of selecting of a path to establish a communication link between a first node and one of a plurality of access points of a wireless cellular telecommunication system, the wireless cellular telecommunication system having second nodes being adapted to serve as relay nodes. A system for radio communication with mobile stations, the system being of the type enabling one or more network operators to manage respective distinct networks. Each network is constituted by geographical cells and has mobile stations travelling therethrough. A method for adjusting the length of a data block in a time-division multiple access communication system includes estimating the impulse response of a communication channel from received symbols of a reference sequence, estimating a signal-to-noise ratio from the channel impulse response, and estimating a maximum Doppler shift. Several emitter stations (MS1-MS4) are allowed to transmit call set-up packets in random access channels and user information packets in traffic channels to a receiver station (BST) which is provided with an array of N sensors (A.sub.l -A.sub.N) and with a receiver (RM) adapted to simultaneously acquire N-1 packets from the emitting stations and to derive therefrom N-1 distinct array output signals (X.sub.1 -X.sub.N-1). During either a RACH or a TCH channel, the weight vectors of a emitting station are provided by the data base and are applied to multipliers (M.sub.1 -M.sub.N-1) which produce the N-1 array output signals. In case of interference between emitting stations using a same TCH channel, another TCH channel is allocated to one of the interfering stations and the weight vectors are updated. The stations also send tracking packets in the RACH channel to update their parameters and accordingly the weight vectors in the data base. The present radio telecommunication system is particularly suitable, e.g., for the pan-European 'Global System for Mobile communications' GSM wherein the emitter stations are mobile stations and for similar systems elsewhere.
