A method of obtaining contextually relevant content by a wireless communications device is provided. The method may comprise obtaining, by a wireless communications device (WCD), a destination device identifying item, transmitting the destination device identifying item to a contextual content server, wherein the contextual content server determines one or more contextually relevant content items by processing the received destination device identifying item and a WCD location value, and receiving, from the contextual content server, at least one of the one or more contextually relevant content items.

Method and apparatus for obtaining contextually relevant content

A method includes receiving a distributed radio signal at a wireless communications device (WCD) from a first service provider. The method includes generating a bookmark associated with a first content item included in the distributed radio signal. The bookmark is generated based on radio application data when the WCD is radio-enabled, and the bookmark is generated based on pseudo-radio application data when the WCD is not radio-enabled. The method also includes transmitting the bookmark and a content request associated with the first content item from the WCD to a content source.

Methods and apparatus for enabling context sensitive interaction with distributed content

A method and apparatus for obtaining content distributed to a wireless communications device is provided. The method may comprise receiving, by a wireless communications device (WCD), a first content item distributed by a first service provider, obtaining a bookmark, wherein the bookmark couples at least one WCD operation identifying item to the first content item, transmitting, from the WCD, to a second service provider, a content item request coupled to the bookmark, and receiving, from the second service provider, a second content item associated with the first content item through the transmitted content item request and the bookmark.

Techniques for performing system searches to find a suitable cell to receive full service while camped on a cell with limited service are described. Initially, a user equipment (UE) may camp on a first cell and receive limited service. The UE may perform a system search in background to find a suitable cell to receive full service. By performing the system search in background, the UE can receive paging messages and perform cell reselection and/or other tasks while the system search is pending and may also be able to obtain limited service with little or no delay when requested by a user. The UE may suspend the system search prior to each paging occasion, receive paging messages applicable for the UE, and then resume the system search. The UE may receive a request for limited service (e.g., emergency call), suspend or abort the system search, and obtain the requested limited service.

System search for full service while on a cell with limited service

Methods, devices and systems enable the dynamic updating of home public land mobile network (HPLMN) information stored on a subscriber identification module (SIM) to avoid a roaming indication, without requiring any modifications to the mobile device modem, SIM application programming interface (API), the modem software, or the mobile device operating system. A mobile device may scan available public land mobile networks (PLMNs) to identify a participating PLMN to which the mobile device may connect, and receive network values having a mobile country code (MCC) value and a mobile network code (MNC) value from the identified PLMN. The mobile device may overwrite an existing HPLMN value and/or one or more IMSI values on the SIM with the receive network values.

Methods, systems and devices for dynamic HPLMN configuration

Methods and apparatus for controlling provisioning of a wireless communication device in a cellular network may include maintaining, at a network component, a provisioning status database comprising status information corresponding to provisioning in a home location register of one or more wireless communication devices for one or more cellular networks. Methods and apparatus for controlling provisioning of a wireless communication device

The disclosure is directed to techniques for performing service signal searches with reduced power consumption when a wireless communication device is operating out of service. The techniques include placing the wireless communication device in a 'deep sleep' mode when the wireless communication device is not in service. When operating in the deep sleep mode, the wireless communication device reduces power consumption by not looking for paging signals or searching for service signals. The wireless communication device then may periodically enter a wake-up period during which power consumption is increased to perform signal searches in one or more frequency bands. The wireless communication device returns to the deep sleep mode when the signal searches are unsuccessful.

Sleep mode for wireless communication device during out of service operation

Radio Data System (RDS) Interactive Services (IS) combines data feeds and interactivity with programs broadcast on FM channels. An RDS-IS client application on user equipment (e.g., handset) extracts RDS information from the RDS enabled FM receiver, and presents content on a mobile screen in a user-friendly format. Broadcasted RDS message can include special strings or 'anchors' for special treatment by receivers. Receivers replace text with visuals to enhance user experience, such as cartoons or photographic icons based on names in RadioText fields. The RDS-IS client application generates specific prompts and composes interactive screens, enables hot keys and decides actions (e.g., voice calls, SMS) on key press, triggers contextual e-commerce by invoking data calls to given URLs, and sends statistics to the operator of a two-way data channel that provides enhanced content (e.g., CDMA reverse link, SMS, wireless access network, etc.) based upon 'anchors' or &#x201c;tags&#x201d; included with the RDS-IS message.

Common interface protocol for sending FR-RDS messages in wireless communication systems

This disclosure describes techniques for efficiently handling emergency calls in a wireless communication system. The techniques are executed in a wireless communication device (WCD) that is interoperable between radio access technologies (RATs). For example, the WCD may support interoperability between the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and the Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN). Typically, the emergency call is redirected to another RAT or frequency following an unsuccessful emergency call. However, instead of searching only suitable cells on which to place the emergency call, a WCD that implements the described techniques searches acceptable cells of any public land mobile network and attempts to place the emergency call on the cell with the highest power. By placing the emergency call on the cell with the highest power, the techniques reduce delay in placing emergency calls by reducing the number of attempts required before successfully placing the emergency call.

Emergency call handling in a wireless communication system

Techniques for searching for wireless networks are described. In one scheme, a user equipment (UE) performs a manual search for detectable wireless networks while operating in a connected mode. The UE operates in the connected mode for communication with a wireless network and receives a request to search for detectable wireless networks. The UE performs a search for detectable wireless networks while operating in the connected mode, e.g., as background task during DRX time. In another scheme, the UE retains a search request received in an active state and performs a search at a later time after transitioning to an idle state. In yet another scheme, the UE efficiently handles a search across state transitions. The UE may cancel, suspend, resume, or continue the search after each transition from one state to another state based on the type of each state.

Efficient search for wireless networks in connected mode

Techniques for performing uniform out-of-service (UOOS) search to detect for wireless systems are described. The UOOS search is 'uniform' in that sleep cycle and/or awake period are fixed. A wireless device transitions to an OOS state upon detection of OOS conditions for a radio access technology (RAT). The wireless device performs system search during the awake period of each sleep cycle while in the OOS state. The awake period may have a first fixed time duration, and the sleep cycle may have a second fixed time duration. In each awake period, the wireless device may either start a new search or resume a prior search based on saved state information if the search was not completed in a prior awake period. In each awake period, the wireless device may (i) start and complete a search for recently acquired frequency channels and systems and (ii) start or resume a search for other frequency channels and systems in one or more RATs.

Uniform out-of-service search for wireless communication systems

Techniques to efficiently search for wireless networks while minimizing page loss are described. An available search time that excludes paging periods is determined. A search for cells in wireless networks is performed during the available search time. Pertinent information is obtained for cells acquired during the search. The pertinent information may be dependent on the type of search being performed. For a manual search to find detectable wireless networks, the pertinent information for each acquired cell may be network identifier information. For an automatic search to find higher priority wireless networks, the pertinent information for each acquired cell in a higher priority wireless network may be system information used to select that cell. The search may be suspended prior to a paging period. State information for the search may be saved prior to suspending the search. The search may be resumed using the saved state information at the end of the paging period.

Efficient search for wireless networks while minimizing page loss

Techniques for efficiently performing system search to obtain service from a wireless system as quickly as possible are described. A terminal initially looks for service from a first (e.g., W-CDMA) system. The terminal identifies network(s) in the first system from which service was received in the past and performs acquisition on each network to look for service. If service is not found for the first system, then the terminal performs a search for a second (e.g., GSM) system. If service is found on the second system, then the terminal obtains service from the second system and avoids a frequency scan for the first system. Otherwise, the terminal performs a frequency scan for the first system using the search results for the second system. The terminal may obtain a list of RF channels detected for the second system and may omit these RF channels and possibly some other RF channels around these RF channels from the frequency scan.

System search to detect for a wireless communication network in a crowded frequency band

Methods and apparatus for out of service processing with varied behaviors. In an aspect, a method is provided for service acquisition. The method includes determining one or more conditions, wherein each condition is associated with at least one weight, detecting whether an out-of-service event has occurred, and if an out-of-service event is detected: identifying selected conditions and associated weights, and processing the associated weights to determine service acquisition 'on' and 'off' times. In an aspect, an apparatus includes condition logic configured to determine one or more conditions, wherein each condition is associated with at least one weight, and processing logic configured to detect whether an out-of-service event has occurred, and if an out-of-service event is detected, to identify selected conditions and associated weights, and process the associated weights to determine service acquisition &#x201c;on&#x201d; and &#x201c;off&#x201d; times.

Methods and apparatus for out of service processing with varied behaviors

A system comprises an input for product selection data; a marketplace product store for storing marketplace product definitions; a product selection store for storing data defining a selection of one or more products from the marketplace product store; an enterprise capability store for storing data defining capability of an enterprise in relation to supply of one or more products; and a product fulfillment data store for storing one or more product descriptions. At least one link is generated between each product description in the product fulfillment data store to data stored in the enterprise capability store, and at least one link is generated between each product description in the product fulfillment data store to data stored in the product selection store. The links are determined by a requirement in the respective product description for specified data in the enterprise capability store and the product selection store, such that a valid product description is dependent on presence of the specified data.
