Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method of registering a first service in a network comprising a plurality of nodes, wherein the first service comprises a plurality of routes between a source node and a destination node, and wherein the registering comprises creating a first table of weights for a first distribution of traffic among the plurality of routes in the first service; registering a second service in the network including a second table of weights for a second distribution of traffic among a second plurality of routes for the second service; determining whether a fault on a link in the network would create congestion in the first plurality of routes and the second plurality of routes; and modifying the first table of weights or the second table of weights responsive to determining the congestion. System and method for avoiding congestion in a load balanced network

Systems and methods include, in a first Label Edge Router (LER) in a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, creating a primary tunnel with a second LER; creating a Make Before Break (MBB) tunnel with the second LER for the primary tunnel; prior to switching to the MBB tunnel from the primary tunnel, sending an MPLS request to the second LER via the MBB tunnel and receiving an MPLS response from the second LER via the MBB tunnel indicating successfully creation of the MBB tunnel; switching to the MBB tunnel responsive to the successfully creation of the MBB tunnel; and, prior to tearing down the primary tunnel, checking statistics of the MBB tunnel to ensure traffic has moved to the MBB tunnel from the primary tunnel.

Control and data plane synchronization during Make Before Break operations in Multiprotocol Label Switching

A method, in a switch in an interconnected layer-2 architecture, is disclosed for enhanced forwarding database synchronization of Media Access Control (MAC) addresses based on HIT logic. The method includes learning a MAC address against a port associated with the switch; storing the MAC address with information comprising a port Identifier (ID), a switch ID, and the enhanced HIT logic set to true; setting the enhanced HIT logic to false if the MAC address was not seen on the port at an end of a cycle; and synchronizing the MAC address with other switches in the interconnected layer-2 or multi-chassis architecture if the enhanced HIT logic is true at the end of the cycle.

Enhanced forwarding database synchronization for media access control addresses learned in interconnected layer-2 architectures

A method and a multi-switch architecture include learning a media access control (MAC) address at a first switch in a multi-switch architecture; storing the MAC address in a forwarding database of the first switch; transmitting a data frame to one or more switches in the multi-switch architecture via inter-switch connectivity between the first switch and the one or more switches, wherein the data frame is created to enable the one or more switches to learn the MAC address therefrom; learning the MAC address from the data frame at the one or more switches; and storing the MAC address in a forwarding database for each of the one or more switches. This further includes transmitting the data frame via ports and queues in the inter-switch connectivity that are separate from ports and queues in a data path between the first switch and the one or more switches to avoid data path interference.
