A network element for a digital transmission network is proposed. The network element contains two switching matrices for switching data cells, as well as ingress ports that receive TDM traffic flow and packet traffic flow and segment the traffic flows into cells. A control system for controlling the configuration of the ingress ports and the switching matrices controls the ingress ports, in case of no failure of the switching matrices, to forward the TDM traffic flows to both switching matrices and to split the packet traffic flow over the two switching matrices.

Device and method for switching data traffic in a digital transmission network

A method for creating an Operation Administration and Maintenance frame in an Ethernet/Transport Multi-Protocol Label Switch hybrid network. The method includes mapping values in an Ethernet Operation Administration and Maintenance data field in a protocol data unit (PDU) in a first Ethernet Operation Administration and Maintenance frame (Ethernet OAM frame) into a Transport Multi-Protocol Label Switch Operation Administration and Maintenance data field in PDU in a first Transport Multi-Protocol Label Switch Operation Administration and Maintenance frame (TMPLS OAM frame) and mapping values in first control parameter fields in the first Ethernet OAM frame into second control parameter fields in the first TMPLS OAM frame. The PDU in the first TMPLS OAM frame includes added extra fields as necessary, and the second control parameter fields further comprise preselected default information and routing information mapped from values stored in a memory.

Ethernet/TMPLS hybrid network operation administration and maintenance frame creation method

A method is described for enhancing a trail/path protection function in a SDH/SONET network, the network comprising a number of working resources and a number of protection resources and transmitting signal frames having a section overhead in SDH technology, or a Line OverHead in SONET technology, and a POH, said protection function comprising linear MSP N:1 trail protection function based on transmission of protection information through K1 and K2 bytes of Section OverHead in SDH or Line OverHead in SONET, wherein the method further comprises the step of mapping the content of said K1 and K2 bytes by protocol exchange into POH bytes of the path overhead in SDH or SONET, at Low Order and/or High Order level, so as to allow the handling of more than one protecting resource shared among different working resources, both in end-to-end handling and in intermediate handling.

Described is a method for managing the traffic protection in OMS-SPRING networks and allowing the wavelength allocation change in the traffic transit nodes.
