Disclosed herein is a system including a power transistor having a first conduction terminal coupled to a supply node, a second conduction terminal coupled to an output node, and a control terminal controlled by a drive signal. The system further includes a driver configured to receive an input voltage from an external component and generate the drive signal based thereupon, and a sense circuit. The sense circuit is configured to, when the power transistor is powering a load coupled to the output node: detect whether the power transistor has entered an overload condition, and if so, determine a duration of time that the power transistor is in the overload condition; and assert a diagnostic signal in response to the duration of time being outside of a time window.

Time based predictive maintenance for capacitive loads in factory automation applications

A method and apparatus for adaptive rectification for preventing current inversion in motor windings are provided. In the method and apparatus, first and second half bridges of a plurality of half bridges are operated to synchronously rectify and permit passage of current, through the windings of the motor, in a first direction. A change of direction of the current from the first direction to a second direction opposite the first direction is detected. In response to detecting that the current changed direction to the second direction, the first and second half bridges of the plurality of half bridges are operated to quasi-synchronously rectify and block passage of the current through the windings in the second direction.

Adaptive rectification for preventing current inversion in motor driving

A circuit includes a current path and a negative bootstrap circuitry coupled to the current path. The current path is coupled between a floating voltage and a reference ground, and includes a current generator coupled through a resistor to the floating voltage at a first node of the current generator. The current generator is controlled by a pulse signal. The negative bootstrap circuitry includes a pump capacitor coupled to a second node of the current generator and to the reference ground. The pump capacitor is configured to provide a negative voltage at the second node of the current generator based on the pulse signal.

A pulse width modulated current control method and system architecture may achieve the high performance of an advanced current control for full-bridge stages, in terms of accuracy, error, speed, and frequency response, but with a reduced complexity in terms of used analog circuits, being comparable with that of an elementary peak current control. The only analog blocks used may be a current sense transducer, i.e. a series resistor or a sense-FET, and a comparator for the current sensing while the rest of the control circuitry is digital.

Predictive current control in driving a load in a PWM mode

A method of driving a stepper motor in a feed-forward voltage mode may include for a desired speed for the stepper motor setting an amplitude of a sinusoidal phase voltage of the stepper motor to be equal to a sum of an expected back-electromotive force (BEMF) amplitude estimated as a function of the desired speed, and a product of a desired phase current amplitude and an estimated absolute value of an impedance of the stepper motor.

Method and hardware system for driving a stepper motor in feed-forward voltage mode

An electronic synchronous/asynchronous transceiver device for power line communication networks is integrated into a single chip and operates from a single supply voltage. The transceiver device includes: at least an internal register that is programmable through a synchronous serial interface; at least a line driver for a two-way network communication over power lines implemented by a single ended power amplifier with direct accessible input and output lines that is part of a tunable active filter for the transmission path; and at least a couple of linear regulators for powering with different voltage levels different kind of external controllers linked to the transceiver device.

Electronic synchronous/asynchronous transceiver device for power line communication networks

A protection device for protecting an electronic circuit against a fault is described. The electronic circuit includes an output stage for driving a load and a driving circuit for driving the output stage. The driving circuit is configured to produce a drive signal in response to at least one input signal. The protection device includes a gating circuit and control means. The gating circuit has a first input configured to receive the drive signal, a second input configured to receive a control signal, and an output configured to activate and deactivate the output stage based on the drive signal and control signal. The control means produce the control signal in response to a detection signal representative of detection of the fault either of the load or of the output stage.

Device for protecting electronic circuits against faults

A protection device protects a driving device of an electric motor with at least three phases and at least three windings and the driving device comprises a power stage suitable for driving directly said at least three windings. The driving device is suitable for actuating a motor brake operating phase and comprises detectors suitable for detecting the currents that run in the windings of the motor. The protection device comprises selectors suitable for selecting the currents having a single direction between said detected currents and a deactuator suitable for deactuating the power stage during said motor brake operating phase when the sum of the currents having a single direction is greater than a reference current.
