A continuous flow process for producing coalesced toner particles from aggregated toner particles includes continuously flowing a slurry of aggregated toner particles having a size of from about 5 microns to about 7 microns through one or more heat exchangers, wherein a residence time in the one or more heat exchangers is from about 1 second to about 15 minutes, thereby producing coalesced toner particles having a circularity of from about 0.930 to about 0.990. The aggregated toner particles comprise a polymer resin, a colorant, an aggregating agent, and an optional wax.

A method for removing volatile organic compounds (VOC's) from toner slurries is described, including the isolated toner particles generated by that method.

Sparged toner

Disclosed is toner particles having controlled and tailorable fusing characteristics. In particular, there is provided toner particles comprising styrene acrylate which have specific shape characteristics that allow for tailorable fusing characteristics without generating a detrimental effect on the blocking characteristics of such toners.

A method of making toner particles, includes: mixing a latex emulsion, a colorant emulsion, an optional was emulsion, and optional additives in a first reactor to form a slurry; discharging the slurry from the first reactor to a second reactor through a homogenizer; heating the slurry in the second reactor to form aggregated particles in said slurry; discharging the aggregated particles and slurry from the second reactor to a third reactor; heating the aggregated particles and slurry in the third reactor to coalesce the aggregated particles into toner particles; discharging the toner particles and slurry from the third reactor to a fourth reactor; cooling the toner particles; optionally classifying said toner particles to remove coarse particles; and optionally washing and drying said toner particles, wherein the first reactor, second reactor, third reactor, and fourth reactor are at least two different reactors.

Toner preparation processes

Toner including toner particles having a calcium-containing material at least in a surface portion of the toner particle, wherein the toner particles contain calcium in an amount of from 20 ppm to about 300 ppm of calcium by dry weight of the toner. Developer including a carrier and a toner, wherein the toner includes toner particles having a calcium-containing material at least in a surface portion of the toner particles. In an emulsion aggregation process for making toner particles, the toner particles are treated with calcium. The addition of calcium to the toner particles improves toner performance by lowering cohesion and charging, thereby generating an image of high gloss.

Toner composition

Single component toners having a core with a first latex having a specific glass transition temperature and molecular weight, further having a shell surrounding the core with a second latex having a specific glass transition temperature and molecular weight, and additives added thereto, and processes for producing the same. In embodiments, the toner is a non-magnetic single component toner produced by emulsion aggregation methods.

Toner compositions

Disclosed is an oil-less toner composition exhibiting good low temperature release and stripping in fixing, enhanced surface gloss of fixed image, and/or OHP transparency. By controlling one or more properties, such as the relative thermal energy input during the EA aggregation/coalescence process, using a wax having a certain dispersion size (D50), molecular weight and/or melting temperature, the toner particle produced thereby can achieve optimal surface wax protrusion with a surface wax content of about 12 to about 25 weight percent. This is based on the total amount of wax in the toner, as determined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The contamination of wax on developing rolls, photoreceptor and carriers, which lowers the reliability of the developer, is suppressed with the present exemplary embodiment.

Toners and processes thereof

A toner of the invention includes toner particles comprising a styrene acrylate binder and at least one colorant, and wherein the toner particles, in the absence of external additives, have a mean circularity of from about 0.94 to about 0.98 and a particle size distribution with a lower number ratio geometric standard deviation (GSD) of approximately 1.28 to approximately 1.31 and an upper volume GSD of approximately 1.24 to approximately 1.27. Also included is a set of toners for forming a color image, comprising a cyan toner, a magenta toner, a yellow toner and a black toner, wherein each of the cyan toner, the magenta toner, the yellow toner and the black toner, wherein each of about 70 to about 95% by weight, dry basis, of a styrene acrylate binder, about 5 to about 15% by weight, dry basis, of a wax dispersion, and at least one colorant.

A system for analyzing particles including: a source of solid particles; a sampler apparatus attached to and integral with the source of solid particles which apparatus is adapted to enable removal of small amounts of sample material from the source; a sonication cell connected to the sampling apparatus which sonication cell receives, optionally conditions, and sonicates the small amounts of sample material; a sample analysis apparatus connected to the sonication cell which sample analysis apparatus is adapted to receive, optionally further condition, and analyze the resulting sonicated sample received from the sonication cell; and a liquid pump and liquid carrying lines adapted to: withdraw aliqouts from the source; convey a withdrawn aliqout to the sonication cell and sample analysis apparatus; and flush the system free of residual aliqout contamination.
