The invention provides liposomes containing nonglycosidic ceramides within their bilayers, and compositions thereof. These liposomes activate murine iNKT cells and induce dendritic cell (DC) maturation, both in vitro and in vivo at an efficacy that is comparable to their corresponding soluble nonglycosidic ceramides.
