This invention is directed to a system and method for tracing and monitoring feature usage in a document processing environment. More particularly, this invention is directed to a system and method for tracking and monitoring the use of features, services, or functions available to users on document processing devices. The usage information is provided to an administrator or other authorized user in a format that is easily readable and usable.

This invention is directed to a system and method for storing print jobs. The system and method comprise acquiring print job data representative of a desired print job, which print job data is comprised of a PDL format associated with a selected printer device and selectively storing the print job data in a selected storage location or cabinet in a storage medium. The system and method further comprises acquiring print status information including data representative of a name associated with the print job data and data representative of a size of the print job data and selectively storing the print status information associatively with the print job data. The system and method also comprises selectively communicating the print job data to generate an image for display in an associated display device and selectively communicating the print job data to the selected printer device to obtain a printout thereof.

The present invention is directed to a system and method for the assisted entry of database schema entries. Schema input data is first received from an associated user and tested for acceptability. When the schema input data is unacceptable following the testing, the associated user is then prompted for corrected schema input data. The presence of software tools required to implement the schema instructions specified by the schema input data is then tested and a signal is generated when such required software is absent. A representation of the complete schema is then generated, including the schema input data, and the associated user is prompted to confirm the acceptability of the complete schema setup. The associated user then confirms the acceptability of the complete schema setup and the schema input data is then communicated, following user confirmation, to an associated database server for implementation.

A system and method for setting device module loading sequence. The hardware configuration of the document processing device is scanned and relevant configuration information is collected. Following collection of the relevant configuration information, document processing device system settings are then scanned. The current hardware configuration and the system settings are then input as module loading parameters. Module dependencies and module priorities are then gathered from the system settings and used to generate a module loading sequence table. The modules designated by the table are then loaded in accordance with the generated sequence. When a module loading error is detected, the error is recorded in an error log, viewable by a system administrator, and analyzed by an error handling module. The error handling module then determines whether to halt all loading progress until the error is resolved, or alternatively continues with the module loading while simultaneously generating error log data. Once all modules are loaded in accordance with the generated sequence table, the document processing device is ready to receive and process document processing requests.

A system and method for converting an image to the available paper size being used by the image forming apparatus. A print job is sent to a spooler. A RIP processor then generates image faces for the print job. After the RIP process, the image forming apparatus converts the print job to the paper being used by the image forming apparatus. The print job may also be scaled if desired. Typical conversions are Letter size to A4, A4 to Letter size, Ledger size to A3, and A3 to Ledger size.

A method and system are provided for formatting documents for printing in a selected format and resolution upon determination that the software program generating the print job is incapable of creating a document in the selected layout and at the selected resolution. The process of formatting the document involves causing the software program to generate a print job at a resolution lower than that selected by the user. Images of pages generated by the software program are then formed and printed at a higher resolution, such that the images formed on the printed pages are resized to fit multiple images on one printed page.
