Balloon catheters are prepared to include body affecting chemicals within microcapsules on the exterior of the balloon either alone or with a stent. The coating releases from the balloon when the balloon is inflated into contact with the lumen to be treated. The device provides accurate placement of the dosage required at the location in need of treatment. A sheath may be employed over the balloon and microcapsules to prevent the microcapsules from being rubbed off during delivery through a body lumen. The catheters are especially useful in balloon angioplasty procedures.

A radially expandable stent for implantation within a body lumen having a generally cylindrical body with open proximal and distal ends, the cylindrical body comprising a plurality of metal elements joined to allow flexing of the cylindrical body along the longitudinal axis of the body whereby the stent can conform to a curved body lumen and a polymeric film extending between the metal elements of the stent. The stent provides a biocompatible polymeric surface to contact and support a body lumen and also a flexible structure to allow the stent to conform closely to bends in a body lumen. The stent is especially useful for repairing an injury to blood vessels caused during angioplasty procedures.

A method for making a radially expandable stent for implantation within a body lumen having a generally cylindrical body with open proximal and distal ends, the cylindrical body comprising a plurality of metal elements joined to allow flexing of the cylindrical body along the longitudinal axis of the body whereby the stent can conform to a curved body lumen and a polymeric film applied to the cylindrical body such that it extends between the metal elements of the stent. Therapeutic substances may be incorporated within the applied film. The stent provides a biocompatible polymeric surface to contact and support a body lumen and also a flexible structure to allow the stent to conform closely to bends in a body lumen. The stent is especially useful for repairing an injury to blood vessels caused during angioplasty procedures.

A stent and catheter device for temporary support of body lumens. The stent has a generally cylindrical continuous winding providing radial support from within a body lumen after implantation which can be implanted and removed by a balloon catheter. The stent is provided with an elongated lead attached to the proximal end of the winding and means at a proximal end of the lead and remote from the winding for uncoiling the winding to facilitate its removal in an opened condition with minimal tissue damage. This stent and catheter device is especially useful as a temporary supporting device for repairing damage to blood vessels caused during angioplasty procedures.

Temporary support for a body lumen and method

A lead for providing electrical stimulation signals to the spinal cord and method of use thereof. The lead is implanted in the epidural space and includes an elongate lead paddle located at the distal end of the lead. An array of electrodes is located on the lead paddle. The array has at least three columns of electrodes and includes a column having at least one electrode positioned substantially over the midline of the lead paddle, a column of at least one electrode positioned laterally of the midline on one side thereof and a column of at least one electrode positioned laterally of the midline one the other side thereof. At least one of the columns within the array has more than one electrode. Each of the electrodes is interconnected by a conductor to a respective terminal at the proximal end of the lead. The lead is implanted such that the midline of the of the lead paddle is positioned over the midline of the spinal cord. Each electrode is independently selectable such that the spinal cord may be stimulated unilaterally or bilaterally.

Method of using a spinal cord stimulation lead

A balloon catheter includes a sheath surrounding the balloon, the sheath having a longitudinal line of weakness and a drug-containing viscous matrix material intermediate between the balloon and the sheath such that when the balloon is positioned and inflated in the body lumen it causes the sheath to burst at the line of weakness and release viscous matrix material onto said body lumen. The device provides accurate placement of the dosage required at the location in need of treatment. The catheter is especially useful in balloon angioplasty procedures.
