A liquid crystal display (LCD) device's microcontroller is used drive an LCD lamp ballast such that the scrolling effect from its light leakage may be reduced to a visually imperceptible level. A check may be performed of lamp's control status in order to verify the microcontroller's ability to properly and accurately control the lamp ballast. The microcontroller may then determine a frequency and duty cycle to use for the microcontroller's PWM control signal. Thereafter, the microcontroller may generate the PWM control signal in accordance with the determined frequency and duty cycle, and drive the lamp ballast using the control signal.

Reducing scrolling effect for LCD lamps

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for generating a synchronizing signal during a frequency switch-over of an input signal from a first frequency to a second frequency in a video monitor system. The method comprises the steps of: (1) detecting the frequency switch-over; (2) maintaining the synchronizing signal at the first frequency; (3) generating the synchronizing signal at a third frequency; (4) determining if the second frequency is valid; and (5) if the second frequency is valid, generating the synchronizing signal at the second frequency.

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for providing error detection capability for initialization data stored in a non-volatile memory used in a video monitor. The method comprises the steps of: (1) storing N test values in N distinct locations in the non-volatile memory; (2) reading the N stored test values from the non-volatile memory, each test value being read for K times; (3) selecting N read test values representative of the N stored test values; (4) comparing the N read test values with N corresponding check values; and (5) if the N read test values are equal to the N corresponding check values, reading the initialization data from the non-volatile memory.
