Downhole interventionless depth correlation

A system for mixing a formation fluid sample obtained in a downhole sampling chamber. The system includes a mixing element disposed in the downhole sampling chamber. A support stand is operable to receive the downhole sampling chamber. A magnetic field generator is operably associated with the downhole sampling chamber such that when the magnetic field generator generates a magnetic field, the mixing element moves through the formation fluid sample responsive to the magnetic field, thereby mixing the formation fluid sample.

System and method of mixing a formation fluid sample in a downhole sampling chamber with a magnetic mixing element

An assembly capable of being disposed in a subterranean bore for obtaining a fluid sample is described. The assembly can include an apparatus having a sample chamber and a housing encasing the sample chamber and providing a pressure source. The pressure source can be disposed of in an annulus defined by the sample chamber and the housing. The assembly can be attached to a slick line or wire line and conveyed into a wellbore.

Systems and methods for single-phase fluid sampling

A subsea safety system () for use during a well treatment operation. The subsea safety system () includes a tubular string having an inner flow passage (). At least one valve assembly () is positioned within the tubular string. The valve assembly () is operable between open and closed positioned to selectively permit and prevent fluid flow therethrough. A frangible liner () is disposed within the valve assembly (). The frangible liner () has a close fitting but not fluid tight relationship with the valve assembly (). The frangible liner () is operable to protect the valve assembly () from particle flow during the well treatment operation. In addition, the frangible liner () is operable to shatter responsive to closure of the valve assembly (), thereby allowing full operation of the valve assembly ().

Subsea safety system having a protective frangible liner and method of operating same

A hydraulic control system () for actuating a downhole tool. The hydraulic control system () includes a plurality of valve members () operable to selectively allow and prevent fluid communication between high and low pressure sources () and first and second sides () of an actuator () operably associated with the downhole tool. In the hydraulic control system (), a first valve member () is ported between the high pressure source () and the first side () of the actuator (), a second valve member () is ported between the low pressure source () and the first side () of the actuator (), a third valve member () is ported between the high pressure source () and the second side () of the actuator () and a fourth valve member () is ported between the low pressure source () and the second side of the actuator ().

Hydraulic control system for actuating downhole tools

A safety valve system includes a safety valve having an actuator and a line connected to the actuator. The safety valve is operable by opening the line in the well, with the line being free of any connection to a surface control system. Another safety valve system includes multiple safety valves. An actuator of each safety valve is connected to an actuator of another safety valve via a line. A biasing force in each of the actuators is operative to close the respective one of the safety valves in response to opening of the line. The biasing force is produced at least in part by hydrostatic pressure in a well.

An apparatus () for obtaining a plurality of fluid samples in a subterranean well includes a carrier (), a plurality of sampling chambers () and a pressure source () of the apparatus (). The carrier () has a longitudinally extending internal fluid passageway () and a plurality of externally disposed chamber receiving slots (). An apparatus for actuating a pressure delivery system of a fluid sampler. The apparatus includes a housing () having a longitudinal passageway and defining first and second chambers (). A piston () is disposed within the longitudinal passageway between the first and second chambers (). A valving assembly () is disposed within the longitudinal passageway. The valving assembly () is operable to selectively prevent communication of pressure from a pressure source of the fluid sampler to the second chamber (). The valving assembly () is actuated responsive to an increase in pressure in the first chamber () which longitudinally displaces the piston () toward the valving assembly () until at least a portion of the piston () contacts the valving assembly (), thereby releasing pressure from the pressure source into the second chamber () and longitudinally displacing the piston () away from the valving assembly ().

Method for actuating a pressure delivery system of a fluid sampler

A rotary control valve and associated actuator control system. An actuator control system comprises a rotary control valve including a generally planar face seal, and an actuator operatively connected to the rotary control valve. Another actuator control system comprises a control valve including multiple faces having multiple ports formed therein. Fluid communication is selectively permitted and prevented between the ports in response to relative displacement between the faces. A differential area is configured to apply a biasing force which maintains sealing engagement between the faces, and which increases in response to an increase in pressure applied to the control valve.

Rotary control valve and associated actuator control system

A fluid sampler operable for taking at least one fluid sample in a subterranean well and associated methods. A fluid sampling method includes the steps of disposing a fluid sampler at a first target location in the well, receiving the fluid sample into at least a first sample chamber of the fluid sampler, pressurizing the fluid sample in the first sample chamber using a pressure source of the fluid sampler, retrieving the fluid sampler to a surface location, isolating the fluid sample in the first sample chamber from the pressure source of the fluid sampler and supercharging the fluid sample in the first sample chamber using a pressure source on the surface.

An apparatus () for obtaining a fluid sample in a subterranean well includes a housing () having a sample chamber () defined therein. The sample chamber () is selectively in fluid communication with the exterior of the housing () and is operable to receive the fluid sample therefrom. A debris trap piston () is slidably disposed within the housing (). The debris trap piston () includes a debris chamber (). Responsive to the fluid sample entering the sample chamber (), the debris trap piston () receives a first portion of the fluid sample in the debris chamber () then displaces relative to the housing () to expand the sample chamber ().

Sampling chamber for a single phase fluid sampling apparatus

A hydraulic control and actuation system for downhole tools. In a described embodiment, a hydraulic control and actuation system includes an internal chamber serving as a low pressure region and a well annulus serving as an energy source. A valve assembly provides selective fluid communication between alternating opposite sides of a piston and each of the energy source and low pressure region. Displacement of the piston operates a well tool. Operation of the valve assembly is controlled via telemetry between a remote location and an electronic circuit of the system.
