A polymeric cartridge subassembly for use in medium caliber weaponry, comprising a metallic base having a rearward surface, an open forward surface, and a coupling element therebetween. A polymeric casing is mated with the base coupling element via a coupling end, and includes a forward end opening, an opposite end, and a middle body portion therebetween. The forward end opening is adapted to receive a projectile, and the coupling end has an outer diameter less than that of the middle body portion to facilitate mating with the base coupling element. The polymeric casing is formed from a graphene-reinforced polymer matrix composite which is light-weight; producing necessary ballistics for medium caliber ammunition without deformation of the polymeric casing after firing.

Polymeric cartridge assembly

A piston/rocket projectile for use within a launcher system having a barrel and method of firing such are presented herein. The projectile comprises a projectile body having a combustion chamber for propellant, a piston moveable to extend out a base of the projectile as a result of ignition of propellant in the combustion chamber, and vents for expulsion of combustion products from the ignition of propellant out of the projectile base after initial movement of the piston. A casing is secured to the base of the projectile body, enclosing the piston and vents prior to the ignition of propellant, and a separable joint is disposed between the casing and the base of the projectile body. Upon ignition of propellant in the combustion chamber, the projectile piston is forced down and the separable joint is caused to separate, leaving the casing in the barrel. After the piston completes exertion of propulsion force, combustion products of the ignition of propellant are expelled through the vents out of a lower end of the projectile and solid combustion byproducts from the ignition of the propellant are collected in the casing.

A piston/rocket projectile for use within a launcher system having a barrel and method of firing such are presented herein. The projectile comprises a projectile body having a combustion chamber for propellant, a piston moveable to extend out a base of the projectile as a result of ignition of propellant in the combustion chamber, and vents for expulsion of combustion products from the ignition of propellant out of the projectile base after initial movement of the piston. A casing is secured to the base of the projectile body, enclosing the piston and vents prior to the ignition of propellant, and a frangible joint is disposed between the casing and the base of the projectile body. Upon ignition of propellant in the combustion chamber, the projectile piston is forced against the casing and causes the frangible joint to break, leaving the casing in the barrel. After the piston completes exertion of propulsion force against the casing, combustion products of the ignition of propellant are expelled through the vents out of a lower end of the projectile and solid combustion byproducts from the ignition of the propellant are collected in the casing.

Piston/rocket projectile with frangible casing

A medium caliber round of ammunition capable of being fired at variable velocities and trajectories, and methods of firing such, are presented herein. The ammunition round includes a grenade and a cartridge received in a firing chamber. The cartridge has a front case for receiving the grenade, and a rear case for receiving a primer. An adjustable variator collar is disposed between the front and rear cases. The variator collar is adjustable between a first position that chokes the venting of gas from a high-side stage to a low-side stage for low muzzle velocity, and a second position for un-choking the venting of gas from the high-side stage to the low-side stage for a rapid rise in pressure during the low-side stage, resulting in a high muzzle velocity. The collar may further be adjusted in any position between the first and second for relative amounts of controlled fluid flow.

A rifle comprises a quad lock multicaliber receiver, a barrel extension, a bolt, and a projection engageable with the receiver. The barrel extension includes a cartridge chamber and is securable in an end of the receiver. The bolt is slideable in the receiver and engages a cartridge in the cartridge chamber during the firing phase. The projection comprises locking bars extending through the receiver, and is moveable between locked and unlocked positions to allow for securing and removing of the barrel extension, respectively. Positioning bars are disposed on either side of the receiver split parallel to its longitudinal axis. The locking bars are disposed between these positioning bars and the barrel extension such that when the positioning bars are urged toward each other the receiver split is closed and the positioning bars urge the locking bars toward and into locking grooves to secure the barrel extension in the receiver.

A lightweight rifle has a chassis with a forward receptacle and rear receptacle, a forend tube with a male key, a barrel, a breech, a spacer, a trigger guard, a grip, and a butt stock adapter. The barrel and breech connect along a shared longitudinal axis, and the resulting subassembly inserts into the forend tube. The spacer secures the connection between the breech and the forend tube with a combination of scope screws and rivets that extend through the forend tube, spacer, and breach, respectively. This forend tube subassembly connects to the chassis by inserting the forend tube male key into the chassis forward receptacle and further securing the male key and forward receptacle together with bolts. The butt stock adapter has a protruding male key and mates to the chassis rear receptacle. This allows for the quick and secure connection of a butt stock to the rifle chassis.

A rifle has a receiver, a cartridge chamber connected to the receiver, and a bolt slideable longitudinally in the receiver, the bolt is engageable with a cartridge in the chamber. A bolt carrier is slideable longitudinally in the receiver to move the bolt into and out of engagement with a cartridge in the cartridge chamber, and a bolt handle is connected to the bolt carrier. The bolt handle is positionable in a manual position extending from one side of the rifle to permit manual firing of the rifle and in a semiautomatic position about 180 degrees different from the manual position and extending from the other side of the rifle to permit semiautomatic firing of the rifle. The position of the bolt carrier may be changed between the manual and semiautomatic positions without removing the bolt carrier from the rifle.

A rail mounting system for a firearm includes a shroud on the fore end having a plurality of spaced rectangular pads with raised, rectangular top surfaces and opposed sloping sides forming an opposed pair of side walls that intersect with the shroud surface at an acute angle. The rail mounting system also includes a mounting rail having spaced apart relief sections conforming to the locations of the pads with recessed rectangular relief bottoms and opposed sloping sides forming an opposed pair of angled side walls at the same angle as the pad side walls. The side walls of the pads and relief sections are in contact with each other along at least some of their vertical distances. The pad top is spaced from the relief bottom and the shroud surface is spaced from the rail underside.

A rifle assembly includes a central chassis for carrying an action including a trigger and a trigger guard, the central chassis having a front portion and a rear portion, a rifle fore-end for carrying a barrel, the fore-end having a rear portion, and a fore-end adapter having a rear portion removably secured to the central chassis front portion and a front portion removably secured to the fore-end rear portion. The rifle assembly further includes a rifle butt stock having a front portion and a butt stock adapter having a rear portion removably secured to the butt stock front portion and a front portion removably secured to the central chassis front portion.

Solid chassis rifle

A rifle assembly includes a central chassis having a vertically aligned opening and a pair of slots extending from the sidewalls into the opening. An action has a pair of projections engageable with the slots in the chassis and is removably securable within the chassis. The action is insertable into and removable from above the chassis, with the action axis at an angle to the chassis axis, to engage the respective action and chassis slot and projection. The action is rotatable with respect to the chassis upon engagement of the respective action and chassis slot and projection to align the axes of the action and chassis and lock the action to the chassis against rotation and removal. A resilient material is disposed between the chassis and action to load the action to the chassis with a force in excess of recoil force of the action.

A firearms magazine has compound tapered side walls and feed lips having substantially parallel end portions for maintaining contact with the cartridge as it is loaded. Removable inserts reduce the interior length and width to hold cartridges of different sizes. The insert has a channel along its height to protect the cartridge noses, and is held by a reinforcing member. A movable cartridge follower feeds the cartridges out of the magazine and has projections slideable in channels of the insert.

A firearms magazine has compound tapered side walls and feed lips having substantially parallel end portions for maintaining contact with the cartridge as it is loaded. Removable inserts reduce the interior length and width to hold cartridges of different sizes. One insert has a channel along its height to protect the cartridge noses, and is held by a reinforcing member. A movable cartridge follower feeds the cartridges out of the magazine and has a pair of projections extending along its length for contacting and centering the last cartridge and a projection at one end slideable in the channel of the insert. The follower has one or more downwardly extending members to contact the floor or walls to maintain position of the follower with respect thereto. Projections extending inward from the side walls contact shoulders of the firearms cartridges in sliding relationship as they are fed out of the magazine.
