A system for printing at least one stretchable ink on a thermoformable substrate including an unwinder arranged to feed the thermoformable substrate from a first roll into a web drive subsystem, a surface energy modification device arranged to alter a substrate surface energy to enhance wetting and adhesion of the at least one stretchable ink to the thermoformable substrate, at least one printhead array arranged to deposit the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, at least one radiation curing device arranged to cure the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, a sensor array arranged to monitor the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, and a rewinder arranged to receive the thermoformable substrate and to form the thermoformable substrate into a second roll.

Printing device and method of using the same

A system for printing at least one stretchable ink on a thermoformable substrate including an unwinder arranged to feed the thermoformable substrate from a first roll into a web drive subsystem, a surface energy modification device arranged to alter a substrate surface energy to enhance wetting and adhesion of the at least one stretchable ink to the thermoformable substrate, at least one full width printhead array arranged to deposit the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, at least one radiation curing device arranged to cure the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, a full width array sensor arranged to monitor the at least one stretchable ink on the thermoformable substrate, and a rewinder arranged to receive the thermoformable substrate and to form the thermoformable substrate into a second roll.

A system and method for adjusting a transport path length of a continuous web of recording media in a printing system printing duplex images. The method includes detecting alignment marks, for instance top of form (TOF) marks, on the continuous web of print media and adjusting the path length to provide substantially accurate registration of first and second images on opposite sides of the web for duplex imaging. The system to adjust path length includes idler rollers movable with respect to turnbar rollers.

A method for delivering molten ink to a printing mechanism alternates between a first and second reservoir receiving molten ink from a receiving ink reservoir while providing ink from the other of the first and second reservoirs to a printing mechanism. The alternation of the two reservoirs is achieved with coordinated operation of two actuators operatively connected to two seal members.

High flow ink delivery system

A radiant heating unit is selectively operated to move radiant heating panels to regulate heating of a continuous web of media as the web moves along a media pathway in an imaging device. The radiant heating panels in a radiant heating unit may be moved to any one of a plurality of positions between and including a fully open position and a retracted position in the housing. A panel driver is operated to move the radiant heating panels to one of the positions in the plurality of positions in response to a variable view factor signal.

Continuous media web heater

A system and method is provide for delivering molten ink to a printing mechanism including receiving molten ink in a receiving reservoir, and alternating which of a plurality of reservoirs is opened to the receiving reservoir to receive molten ink while at least one other of the plurality of reservoirs is opened to dispense molten ink to the printing mechanism, in response to the level of ink in a reservoir dispensing molten ink to the printing mechanism.

A radiant heating comprises a housing having an opening for positioning adjacent a media web in an imaging device. A pair of radiant heating panels is positionable in the housing to any one of a plurality of positions between and including a fully open position in which the pair of radiant heating panels are positioned side by side in the opening of the housing and facing the media web and a retracted position in which the pair of radiant heating panels are inside the housing and facing each other. The radiant panels are configured to emit thermal radiation in accordance with a variable thermal output signal. A panel driver is operably coupled to the pair of radiant heating panels for positioning the pair of radiant heating panels to at least one of the plurality of positions in response to a variable view factor signal.

A printing apparatus includes a printing station, including at least one printhead for applying phase-change ink to the substrate, and a backing member disposed on an opposite side of the substrate substantially opposite the printhead, the backing member causing the substrate to reach a predetermined ink-receiving temperature.

A method of maintaining a rotational velocity of an imaging drum in an image producing device includes constructing a table of a drive current for a transfer roll for a plurality of first distances between the imaging drum with the transfer roll, and utilizing the table to control the transfer roll drive to maintain a substantially constant imaging drum rotational velocity at each of the plurality of distances.

A non-linear control (NLC) system for controlling performance of a device. The NLC system comprises a controller system and a first feedback compensator connected to the controller. The first feedback compensator compensates for linear error performance of the device; the second feedback compensator compensates for non-linear error performance of the device.

Method and apparatus for using fast fourier transform feedback to compensate for non-linear motion

A copy machine having a high accuracy sheet registration system for precise placement of images on each copy sheet. The copy machine includes sensors with charge coupled devices (CCDs) that detect the sheet positions in two dimensions within the machine, and detect sheet arrival times at various positions with the machine. Using this detected information, the copy machine employs a multi-stage process to bring the sheet into contact with a color image moving on a photoreceptor belt, in synchronism with the position and speed of the image on the belt. The copy machine also monitors its own condition and makes predictions about needed preventive maintenance, to instruct personnel to service the machine before the machine fails.

Printing systems and methods

A system for determining the cumulative position and periodic average velocity of a rotating body having an incremental encoder, operatively connected to the body, for generating a series of periodic signals indicative of rotation of the body. The system also includes a high frequency clock for generating clock pulses at a frequency greater than the maximum frequency of the encoder signal, and a timer for controlling the total time of a predetermined sample interval. Also included in the device is a counter for accumulating the number of integral encoder signal cycles that have been completed, an arithmetic logic unit for determining the size of a fractional portion of an encoder signal cycle that was completed between the last integral encoder cycle and the end of the sample interval. Subsequently, the number of integral encoder signal cycles is added to the fractional portion of an encoder cycle to determine the total number of encoder signal cycles completed, whereby the total is then multiplied by an encoder position conversion factor to determine the cumulative position of the rotating body or belt driven therefrom.
