A method is provided for transmitting a digital signal via n transmit antennas, wherein n is strictly greater than 2. The method includes combining with a source data vector n vectors to be transmitted respectively by each of the transmit antennas by a coding matrix &#x3c;I&#x3e;M&#x3c;/I&#x3e; with a yield equal to 1, using reference symbols known to at least one receiver whereby it is able to estimate at least three transmission channels corresponding respectively to each of the transmit antennas. The coding matrix &#x3c;I&#x3e;M&#x3c;/I&#x3e; applies a mathematical transformation to the reference symbols prior to the transmission thereof.

An embodiment of invention relates to a method for the transmission of a signal formed by vectors, each vector comprising N source symbols to be transmitted, using M transmission antennas, wherein M is greater than or equal to 2. The method comprises the following steps: linearly precoding the signal using a matrix product of a source matrix formed by vectors that are organized in successive lines by a linear precoding matrix, delivering a precoded matrix; and successively transmitting precoded vectors corresponding to columns of said precoded matrix, the M symbols of each precoded vector being distributed to the M antennas.

The invention lies within the field of wireless communications systems with several transmitting antennas, corresponding to MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems or to MISO (Multiple Input Single Output) systems. According to the invention, the symbols to be transmitted are pre-encoded with a particular linear pre-encoding matrix then coded according to space-time block coding so as to benefit to the full from temporal and spatial diversities allowing at reception for particularly easy and efficient linear decoding.
