A problem determination method, system and program product are provided. Specifically, the present invention identifies problems with software programs by inserting compiled problem determination probes into program classes while the computer system on which the program is loaded is running. Once the probes have been inserted, the classes will be run and trace data will be generated. The trace data can be retrieved and analyzed to identify and address the problem. When the probes are no longer needed, they can be removed while the computer system continues to run.

Problem determination method, system and program product

There is provided a method for generating a software module based upon elements from multiple software modules. The method includes the step of extracting a plurality of sets of elements from the multiple software modules based upon at least one extraction criterion. Any elements in the sets that violate at least one correctness and completeness criterion are identified. The violating elements are automatically brought into compliance with the at least one correctness and completeness criterion. A plurality of single software modules is generated, wherein each of the single software modules contains one of the sets of elements. The plurality of single software modules are composed to form a final, single software module. The extracting step may include the steps of: classifying the elements in the multiple software modules according to concerns the elements pertain to; representing the concerns by a multi-dimensional space, wherein each dimension represents a type of concern, each coordinate on a dimension represents a concern of that type, and each point in the space represents an element; and representing the at least one extraction criterion in terms of the multi-dimensional space.

Method for generating a software module from multiple software modules based on extraction and composition

A compiler having one or more separate components, each of which contains the source code of the compiler which is responsible for implementing a corresponding data representation. These components are responsible for all of the parts of compilation which depend on the corresponding data representation. In one aspect of the present invention, a compiler comprises: a converter for converting program code to object code; and a data representation implementor for isolating within the compiler information that relates to representation of data at runtime, wherein the converter accesses the data representation implementor to obtain information that is needed for converting any portion of the program code that is dependent on representation of data at runtime.

Compiler for supporting multiple runtime data representations

A system and method for integrating entities using a graphic user interface (GUI) to provide user-interactive rule-based matching and difference reconciliation. In one aspect, a system for integrating entities employs a combination of default matching and reconciliation approaches and user tailoring to generate a composite entity from one or more input entities using a set of composition rules. The set of composition rules comprises a combination of default rules, as well as rules that represent user interactions that are performed via a graphical user interface when the user edits a composite result. The rules are captured and then stored persistently when the user requests that the composition be saved, such that the rules may be retrieved during a subsequent editing session associated with the same inputs. If the inputs change, the integration process (as specified by the rules) can automatically handle many changes. It is only when changed elements of the input are, or need to be, subject to specific rules that additional tailoring may be required.

System and method for integrating entities via user-interactive rule-based matching and difference reconciliation

The data structures, apparatus, methods, and mechanisms of the present invention cooperate to provide the user with a flexible multiple inheritance OOP environment. OOP environments comprise composite data structures and internal mechanisms for manipulating those structures. The structures are used to allow a user to realize the power of OOP. Hence, the layout of these structures, the way in which the structures inter-relate, and the manner in which they are built and used are all critical to the utility of a particular OOP environment. It is no surprise, then, that manufacturers and suppliers of OOP environments are constantly striving to design composite data structures and internal mechanisms which maximize user productivity. The composite data structures and organization of the MOM OOP environment provide significant benefits that are not provided by the multiple inheritance environments of the prior art. Of particular significance is the ability to add method programs to a class definition without the need to recompile the majority of the code base.
