An additive manufacturing system is capable of extruding poly-fiber strand having a fiber core coated with a polymer with a high range of flexibility in positioning and orienting extruded fibers. Extruded fibers may be laid in a single direction, or may curve or turn to be laid in multiple directions. Structures of devices and components may be created using interconnected extruded strands having interstitial spaces between and around the strands. This structure may be infused with resin or polymer using a pressure or vacuum based infusion system. In this manner, durable polymeric objects can be created without requiring expensive molds. Other techniques are also possible, including varying the types of strands used in an object to create areas of the object that will preferentially twist or flex in certain ways or directions, as well as producing objects with zones having different types of resin or no resin.

Disclosed in this specification is a casting cup assembly comprising frontcurve and basecurve molds which of which includes a ring that circumscribes the respective concave and convex mold surface. When the casting cup is assembled, the rings align and minimize de-centering and tilting of the concave and convex mold surfaces which, in turn, reduces edge defects.

Specifically, packages are designed with dimple sag equal to or less than 1.90-mm, or volume displaced equal to or less than 360 &#x3bc;l. Combined with the existing primary packaging, it has been found that such conditions provide for reduction in folded lens rate during shipping and handling. As well, lenses stored or having an extended time in low head space packages in a 'foil down' orientation now have characteristics closer lenses stored in a 'foil up orientation.' The packages finally include a foil 3D pattern at a smaller scale than the dimple, by embossing or other methods allowing reduce lens sticking to the foil as well as an added anti-counterfeiting measure.

The present invention provides for an optical assembly using two ultra-thin optical pieces/parts defining the outer bound of the assembly with a solid or liquid core and methods of forming said assembly. In particular, the present in invention discloses the handling and arrangements of said ultra-thin optical pieces to prevent deformation and loss of optical quality of said ultra-thin optical pieces. The ultra-thin optical pieces can be from 25-200 microns and their structural integrity can be preserved through uninterrupted support throughout the encapsulation of one or more fluids, e.g., a saline solution and an oil solution, which can be used to form a liquid meniscus lens. In some embodiments, interlocking features included in the ultra-thin optical parts can be included in order to help create the seal and/or provide structural support to the liquid lens assembly. In another embodiment, the supporting pieces to the ultra-thin optical components have an interlocking or centering mechanism, to aid in the assembly and sealing of said optical assembly.

Disclosed is a bimodal Ziegler-Natta catalyzed polyethylene, having a density of from 0.930 g/cc to 0.960 g/cc, and a molecular weight distribution of from 10 to 25, wherein an article formed therefrom has a PENT of at least 1500. Further disclosed is a method for controlling the degradation of polyethylene including polymerizing ethylene monomer, recovering polyethylene, extruding the polyethylene, and controlling the degradation of polyethylene by measuring the SEI to the extruder and adjusting throughput and/or gear suction pressure keep SEI less than 300 kW&#xb7;h/ton, and forming an article.
