Useful byproducts are recovered through the pyrolytic processing of biomass material such as vegetation, paper, or worn tires. The process is conducted in a sealed enclosure under vacuum or other controlled atmosphere. The biomass material is ablated and burned by crunching between counter-rotating rollers rotated at different speeds whose inner walls have been exposed to a highly heated fluid. The biomass material is preheated by injecting into the feeding duct super-heated dry steam. A condenser within the enclosure reduces resulting vapors into oils that can be drained from the enclosure pan. Solid combustion residue is abstracted from the enclosure by an Archimedes screw.

In the manufacture of molded or laminated articles from composite materials such as fiber-reinforced and carbon or metal-loaded resins, the vacuum plastic bag or other air-tight barrier commonly used during the pressing, heating and curing phases is eliminated. Instead the various process cycles are conducted in one or more fluid-tight pressurizable chamber under various types of atmospheres to eliminate air pockets, vaporize and evacuate moisture and residual solvents, and suppress surface bubbling and frothing of pressed out fluids.

Continuous laminating or molding process

Disclosed is a method of placing a measured amount of tracer material into a release agent solution so that the concentration of tracer material in the release agent as applied to a mold surface is an indication of the amount and distribution of the release agent on the mold surface. The release agent can be applied and/or re-applied until the amount of the tracer material reaches a predetermined value. In the embodiment disclosed the tracer material is a UV dye which will re-emit light when activated by a UV light source and the intensity level of the re-emitted light is a function of the amount of release agent applied. Curing of the release agent preferrably taken place after each layer in multiple layer applications. Also disclosed is a spray head (12) connected to a source (20) of release agent with UV dye therein for coating a mold surface (28). A source of UV light (30,32) activates the UV dye to re-emit visable light which is measured by a photometer (34) to practice the above method. Also disclosed is a method and apparatus by which release agent degradation can be detected and corrected before the release agent is applied to the mold surface. Also disclosed is a completely automatic release agent application cell wherein a release agent spraying robot (10) and a traveling oven (62) automatically processes mold surfaces with a release agent under the operation and control of a computer (64).

Method and apparatus for the proper quantized application of a mold

A reflective solar tracking system of the type arranged to reflect light rays from the sun onto a remote solar energy collector is described. The system comprises a reflector mounted on an assembly incorporating a drive mechanism for rotating the reflector about two axes to compensate for altitudinal and azimuthal changes in the position of the sun. A sensor device is adapted to point at the sun and provide control signals to the drive mechanism so that the reflector is moved in response to solar movement such that sunlight is always reflected onto the collector and at the same time the sensor device is moved so as to track the sun.

Reflective solar tracking system

A process and apparatus for forming a series of plastic laminate samples one-by-one in a semi-continuous manner. Samples pass continuously one after the other through a series of heating, compressing, and cooling steps. Each sample is heated and pressed for a predetermined interval in a first compression press, then passed through a series of levels in a stack in a stacking press. The sample is passed from the last level of the stacking press to a cooling press, where it is cooled for the same predetermined interval of time. Thus samples are stepped one after another through the apparatus, with samples at each step moving simultaneously to the next successive step at predetermined intervals.
