A safety fuze for use in military and commercial applications, includes a fuze body that is attached to a trigger mechanism, an energetic train contained within the fuze body, and a non-energetic fuze delay mixture that is formed in a rod form so that it can dropped inside the fuze body, without modification to the other components of the safety fuze. Preferably, the non-energetic fuze delay mixture is made of foamed celluloid.

A more IM compliant energetics train for a grenade fuze or a detonator includes an explosive charge containing PBXN-5 and a first charge containing PBX-9407 disposed adjacent to the PBXN-5 explosive charge. A flying disc is disposed adjacent to the first charge of PBX-9407. A barrel has one end disposed adjacent to the flying disc and an opposite end disposed adjacent to a second charge containing PBX-9407. Detonation of the first charge containing PBX-9407 causes the flying disc to accelerate through the barrel, impact the second charge containing PBX-9407 and detonate the second charge containing PBX-9407.

A more IM compliant grenade fuze assembly includes a fuze body, an energetics train disposed in the fuze body, and a striker lever rotatably attached to the fuze body. A spring-loaded rotor assembly is rotatably fixed to the fuze body. The rotor assembly includes a primer. A firing pin is disposed in one of the rotor assembly and the fuze body. Placing the primer in the rotor assembly decreases the area of the fuze assembly that is vulnerable to initiation by impact from a bullet, fragment, or shape charge.

A detonator formed entirely from a plurality of discrete segments of an insensitive energetic composition, each of the segments employed in the detonator being compacted at different pressures from powder and/or granules of insensitive energetic composition so as to form an energetic train which sequences detonation of the individual segments. Initiation of a main charge can only be effected when a last segment in the detonation train is initiated. Detonation starts with a first segment in the detonation train which is produced under the lowest compaction pressure, and then detonation progresses to a last segment compacted under a higher compaction pressure. The first segment can be detonated by a safety fuse or detonating cord, and the last segment can only be detonated by the next to the last segment in the detonation train.

An apparatus for hydrotesting a hollow component includes a generally cylindrical main body having a bore therethrough that defines first and second open ends, the bore including a central axis; first and second end plates fixed to the main body for closing the first and second open ends, the first end plate including a vent port and a pressure port that open into the bore radially distal from the central axis, the second end plate including a vent port and a pressure port; an alignment disc disposed in the bore and fixed atop the second end plate, the alignment disc including a vent port and a pressure port that open into the bore radially proximal the central axis, the vent port and the pressure port of the alignment disc being in fluid communication with the vent port and the pressure port, respectively, of the second end plate; and a movable sealing cap disposed in an opening in the first plate and movable along the central axis of the bore.
