Treatment of an aneurysm or other vascular defect can be facilitated or enhanced by an implant delivered with a thermally activated detachment system. A delivery system can include an implant with a proximal portion that defines a port. A pusher device can include arms extending distally from a junction of the pusher device and through the port, with distal sections of the arms disposed within the implant. The arms can, at a certain temperature, transition from engagement with the implant to a shape that facilitates release of the implant. Additionally or alternatively, a coil can engage an outer surface of the implant at the proximal portion and transition to a shape that facilitates release of the implant.

Implant detachment with thermal activation

Detachment of an implant from a delivery assembly can be electrolytic and provide an electrical current pathway through a fluid within a portion of a delivery system containing the delivery assembly. After the implant is located at a target location within a patient, a voltage potential is applied between (i) a delivery electrode electrically connected to an electrolytic detachment zone and (ii) an infusion electrode disposed outside of the patient and electrically connected to the electrolytic detachment zone via a fluid from a fluid source disposed outside of the patient. While applying the voltage potential, the fluid can be flushed from the fluid source past the detachment zone.

A system for treatment of an aneurysm includes an intrasaccular device that can be delivered using a catheter. The device can include at least one expandable structure adapted to transition from a compressed configuration to an expanded configuration when released into the aneurysm. The expandable structure can have a specific shape or porosity. Multiple expandable structures can also be used, in which case each of the expandable structures can have a unique shape or porosity profile. The morphology of the aneurysm and orientation of any connecting arteries can determine the type, size, shape, number, and porosity profile of the expandable structure used in treating the aneurysm.

Occlusive devices

Delivery and detachment of an implant can be enhanced by a retraction mechanism to secure portions of a delivery wire within an interior space of the implant. A delivery system can include an implant having a proximal end portion. A delivery wire can include (i) a detachment zone proximal to the proximal end portion and (ii) a distal region distal to the proximal end portion. An expansion member can be located between the proximal end portion and the distal region of the delivery wire. The expansion member can be biased to move the distal region of the delivery wire distally away from the proximal end portion when severed at the detachment zone.

Electrolytic detachment for implantable devices

Systems and methods for treating an aneurysm in accordance with embodiments of the present technology include intravascularly delivering an occlusive member to an aneurysm cavity via an elongated shaft and transforming a shape of the occlusive member within the cavity. The method may include introduction of an embolic element to a space between the occlusive member and an inner surface of the aneurysm wall. In some embodiments, the elongated shaft is detachably coupled to a distal portion of the occlusive member.

Devices, systems, and methods for treatment of intracranial aneurysms

An occlusive device for occluding a target area can include an elongate member having opposing first and second side edges extending longitudinally along the member and a member width. The member can have a collapsed configuration in which the first and second side edges are curled toward each other about a longitudinal axis of the member. Further the member can have an expanded configuration in which the member form a series of loops and the first and second side edges uncurl to be spaced apart from each other.

Embolic medical devices

Detachment of a medical device from a delivery assembly can focus activity of electrolytic detachment to enhance detachment procedures. Electrolytic activity can be focused by insulating nearby areas of a core wire and pre-treating a detachment zone to reduce crystallinity of the detachment zone. Such a delivery system, can include an electrolytically corrodible core wire comprising a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a detachment zone between the proximal portion and the distal portion; a proximal insulating layer annularly contacting the proximal portion; a coil helically winding about and contacting at least a portion of the proximal insulating layer; a tube annularly contacting at least a portion of the helical coil; a distal insulating layer annularly contacting the distal portion; and a hub of an implant annularly contacting at least a portion of the distal insulating layer; wherein a distal end of the proximal insulating layer and a proximal end of the distal insulating layer are axially spaced apart to expose the detachment zone.
