A composite extractant-enhanced polymer resin comprising an extractant and a polymer resin for direct extraction of valuable metals such as rare earth metals, and more specifically, scandium, from an acid-leaching slurry and/or acid-leaching solution in which ferric ions are not required to be reduced into ferrous ions. The extractant may be cationic, non-ionic, or anionic. More specifically, the extractant di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid may be used. The polymer resin may be non-functional or have functional groups of sulfonic acid, carboxylic acid, iminodiacetic acid, phosphoric acid, or amines. The composite extractant-enhanced polymer resin may be used for extraction of rare earth metals from acid-leaching slurries or solutions.

Composite extractant-enhanced polymer resin, method of making the same, and its usage for extraction of valuable metal(s)

A method of extracting rare metals from ore including: providing an aqueous acid-leached ore slurry; adding an organic extractive solvent to the aqueous acid-leached ore slurry; mixing an organic extractive solvent with the aqueous acid-leached ore slurry to form a mixture; and separating the mixture into at least an aqueous phase and a solvent phase. The aqueous acid-leached ore slurry may have a viscosity of less than 400 centipoise, a Newtonian or near Newtonian rheology, and a pH of less than 4.0. The organic extractive solvent may comprise an extractant, a solvent, and a modifier. Separation of the aqueous acid-leached ore slurry/organic extractive solvent mixture may result in an emulsion phase, a crud, or both in addition to the aqueous phase and the solvent phase. The emulsion phase, the crud or both may be further treated by adding a low-carbon-number alcohol.

Method of direct solvent extraction of rare earth metals from an aqueous acid-leached ore slurry

A radiation detector crystal is made from CdxZn1-xTe, where 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;1; an element from column III or column VII of the periodic table, desirably in a concentration of about 1 to 10,000 atomic parts per billion; and the element Ruthenium (Ru), the element Osmium (Os) or the combination of Ru and Os, desirably in a concentration of about 1 to 10,000 atomic parts per billion using a conventional crystal growth method, such as, for example, the Bridgman method, the gradient freeze method, the electro-dynamic gradient freeze method, the so-call traveling heater method or by the vapor phase transport method. The crystal can be used as the radiation detecting element of a radiation detection device configured to detect and process, without limitation, X-ray and Gamma ray radiation events.
