Ionic liquid bath plating systems, methods, and plating anodes are provided for depositing metallic layers over turbomachine components and other workpieces. In an embodiment, the method includes placing workpieces in a plurality of cell vessels such that the workpieces are at least partially submerged in plating solution baths, which are retained within the cell vessels when the plating system is filled with a selected non-aqueous plating solution. After plating anodes are positioned adjacent the workpieces in the plating solution baths, the plurality of cell vessels are enclosed with lids such that the plurality of cell vessels contain vessel headspaces above the plating solution baths. A first purge gas is then injected into the plurality of cell vessels to purge the vessel headspaces. The workpieces and the plating anodes are then energized to deposit metallic layers on selected surfaces of the workpieces utilizing an ionic liquid bath plating process.

The disclosed embodiments generally relate to non-destructive evaluation methods. More particularly, the disclosed embodiments relate to ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation methods for the evaluation of friction welded bladed discs ('blisks'). In an embodiment, a method for non-destructive evaluation of a bladed disc structure includes identifying a region of interest on the bladed disc structure; positioning an ultrasonic transducer and receiver in the region of interest; scanning the region of interest using the ultrasonic transducer and receiver to produce a scan image; and comparing the scan image against a reference image to determine the presence of an anomaly in the region of interest.

A method is provided for manufacturing an engine component. The method includes providing a structural bridge device on a base block; forming a component portion on the structural bridge device with an additive manufacturing technique; removing the component portion from the base block and the structural bridge device; and finishing the component portion to form the engine component.

Methods for manufacturing engine components with structural bridge devices

The present invention provides methods and materials for use in applying a coating on a surface of a magnesium component. The method includes the steps of: accelerating a coating powder to a velocity of between about 500 to about 1200 meters/second, wherein the coating powder comprises a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, aluminum alloys, titanium, titanium alloys, and composites; directing the coating powder through a convergent-divergent nozzle onto the surface of the magnesium component; and forming a coating on the surface of the magnesium component so as to substantially cover the surface of the magnesium component. The coating thickness may be between approximately 0.1 to approximately 1.0 mm.

The present invention provides a bypass duct and boss assembly comprising: a bypass duct having an exterior surface, an interior surface, an edge surface, an inner bonding surface, and a side wall surface, wherein the edge surface further defines an aperture; a boss having a lip surface, a side surface, and a face surface, wherein the boss is disposed within the aperture of the bypass duct such that the lip surface of the boss forms matched bonding surfaces with a portion of the exterior surface of the bypass duct, and such that the side surface of the boss forms matched bonding surfaces with the edge surface of the bypass duct; a patch having a patch edge, a patch inner surface, and a patch outer surface, wherein the patch is disposed such that the patch inner surface forms matched bonding surfaces with the inner bonding surface of the bypass duct and the face surface of the boss, and such that the patch edge forms matched bonding surfaces with the side wall surface of the bypass duct, the patch further having a thickness and curvature, and the patch further disposed such that the patch outer surface forms a continuous curvature with the interior surface of the bypass duct; and adhesive disposed between the matched bonding surfaces so as to firmly bond the bypass duct, boss, and patch into the assembly.

A ceramic finger seal for use between a housing and a combustor liner to inhibit air passage therebetween and for use in fluid sealing between a rotating shaft and a housing circumscribing the rotating shaft. The ceramic finger seal has at least two annular diaphragm members constructed of two or more diaphragm segments bonded end to end by ceramic cement or other high temperature joining compounds. The diaphragm members may be partitioned into a generally continuous inner diameter portion and a segmented outer diameter portion or the reverse thereof. The segmented portion includes finger elements spaced uniformly apart forming gaps therebetween and extend radially outward or inward terminating in a foot portion. The rolled edge on the finger is formed by laser cutting to prevent gouging of the combustor liner surface.

A thin wall cooling system has multiple in-wall channels traversing a thin wall structure such as the wall of a gas turbine engine blade or vane. The blade has a hollow interior that may be divided into multiple cavities. Coolant is introduced into an entry opening of each in-wall channel and then discharged through exit openings into the vane cavities. The coolant then exits the cavities by through wall channels to discharge the coolant to form a cool air film on the external surface of the blade. This combination allows improved cooling control for structures that experience an elevated temperature environment, as for example, the flow of hot gas across the exterior surface of a gas turbine engine blade.
