A device for reinforcing, sealing, or damping a structural element in a motor vehicle including a carrier, having a first lateral region and a second lateral region, and a first adhesive for connecting the carrier to the structural element. The first adhesive is arranged on the first lateral region of the carrier. The second lateral region of the carrier is designed in such a way that a second adhesive, which can be pumped or extruded onto the structural element or onto the second lateral region of the carrier, is supported by the second lateral region of the carrier during and/or after its activation.

A device for reinforcing, sealing, or damping a structural element in a motor vehicle including a support which has multiple cells, wherein each cell surrounds a cavity. Disclosed are various embodiments of a structural reinforcement system. The system reinforces hollow cavities within various products to increase the structural rigidity of the product. The system generally includes a rigid carrier, a bonding material, and an insert. The rigid carrier provides the primary structural reinforcement within the cavity, and also serves as a substrate to carry the bonding material. The insert is provided to increase the structural rigidity of the reinforcement system.

An exemplary reinforcing element () may be configured to be received within a longitudinally extending cavity (C) defined by a structure (). The reinforcing element may include a base portion () having a bonding material () applied thereon, and a member () selectively secured to the base portion and configured to selectively extend away from the base portion when the reinforcing element is received within the cavity. Accordingly, the reinforcing element may define a first length (L) when the member is in a first position with respect to the base portion, and a second length (L+L) when the member is in a second position extending away from the base portion, the second length being greater than the first length. The selectively extending arrangement of the reinforcing element may generally allow improved ease and accuracy of installing the reinforcing element within a generally closed structure.

Process and arrangement for making a reinforced structural member

A baffle or reinforcer includes a carrier configured to be disposed in a cavity and a fixation mechanism disposed on the carrier and configured to at least partially support the carrier in the cavity. The fixation mechanism defines an opening for receiving an expandable material. The fixation mechanism has an anti-return device configured to prevent at least a portion of the expandable material from escaping through the opening during expansion. A method includes inserting the carrier into the cavity, injecting the expandable material into the cavity via the opening in the fixation mechanism, expanding the expandable material within the cavity, and preventing at least a portion of the expandable material from escaping through the opening during expansion.
