Pet toy

A toy for pets to induce and maintain the interest of the pet without human participation. A movable support for suspending a toy character therefrom may be mounted in base member having a rounded bottom wall. In this manner when the toy character is batted by a pet both the support and base member move in random patterns acting to enhance the movement of the toy character. This enhanced random motion of the toy character is very effective in inducing and maintaining the interest of the engaged pet.

An attention attracting article for a viewing device, such as a camera or a pair of binoculars, is preferably die cut from a single sheet of cardboard and folded around the viewing device to define an enclosure therefor, the attention attractor including a character with a head extending outwardly from the enclosure and hands on the enclosure so that from a vantage point facing the viewing device, it appears as if the character is holding the viewing device and looking therethrough. Particularly when the viewing device is a camera, the attention attracting article helps retain a child's attention when it is desired to take a photograph of the child, because the child believes that the familiar character is encouraging interaction with the camera, rather than concealment of the camera. When used with binoculars, the article attracting device is primarily for amusement, although it could also be used to encourage children to use binoculars and perhaps arouse their curiosity about optical principals.

Attention attractor for viewing device

A compact shelter includes a base and a plurality of interchangeable roofs mountable to the base. A flat roof may be provided with a railing and a series of steps leading to ground level to provide a pet with easy access to a raised resting area. A sliding front door and sliding internal partitions may be used to subdivide the shelter into a plurality of internal compartments. An improved cross ventilation system is provided along with a no-tangle leash assembly. Sloped floors leading to a drainage aperture facilitate cleaning and flushing of the shelter.

Pet shelter

A large hollow ball is centrally and symmetrically mounted around an axle having ends which extend beyond the outer wall of the ball equally on diametrically opposed sides. The two axle ends are secured within retainers provided on a ring which orbits the center ball. The ring has a center track on which is contained a plurality of balls. In operation, as a cat propels the center ball, the ring is free to pivot about the axis and as the ring pivots, the balls contained in the track roll back and forth.

An elongated arm is rotatably connected to a pivot shaft mounted between a base and a canopy. The elongated arm extends radially between the canopy and the base and extends beyond the perimeter of the base and the canopy. Attached to the free end of the arm and suspended just beyond the perimeter of the canopy and the base is a toy character. In use, as a pet swats the toy character, the arm is rotated about the pivot shaft which initiate a fixed orbital motion of the character about the perimeter of the cap and the base.

A toy construction having a light element which can be illuminated without the use of an artificial light source in the toy. The toy comprises a toy body made of an opaque material and having an aperture therethrough, and a light element made of a translucent material having a fluorescent color. The light element is mounted on the toy body and it includes a collecting portion having an enlarged, preferably smooth, collecting surface thereon which is located in an exposed position on the exterior of the toy and an emitting portion having a reduced, preferably roughened, emitting surface thereon which is also located in an exposed position on the exterior of the toy. The light element communicates with the exterior of the toy body through the aperture in the toy body so that the emitting and collecting surfaces are exposed at spaced locations on the toy and when the collecting surface is exposed to an external light source, light is transmitted through the light element so that the emitting surface exhibits a glowing effect.
