Data provided by external sources is visualized. A user interface for a data visualization platform receives a query from a client, and forwards it to an application programming interface for an internal data source provider. The application programming interface ('API') forwards the query to a retrieval service, which identifies an external data source provider specified by a tag in the query and forwards the query to the external data source provider. The retrieval service retrieves a content stream from the external data source provider in response to the query being enhanced by a retrieval mode supported by the external data source provider or the retrieval service. The retrieval service processes the content stream, including identifying a format of the content stream, and forwards the processed content stream to the API, which forwards the processed content stream to the user interface, which visualizes the processed content stream on the client.

The UI provides a dynamic mechanism for assets to be controlled, as well as mechanisms to compare the data of different assets by which certain assets can be subsequently manipulated. The UI enables the detection, and contextualized visualization of operational data for assets and/or locations in distributed supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems in Cloud connected environments.

A worker role instance automatically associates received comments with a process tag at a particular time in response to receiving the comments. The worker role instance stores the comments in the flexible, platform-independent data structure such that the comment is provided in association with the tag at the particular time in response to a display or search request for the tag.

An historian device periodically receives count value data points from the counter. A deadband value D is set in the historian device for distinguishing between rollovers, resets, and reversals. A client device queries the historian device for an amount of products passed through the process element for a timeframe. The historian device selects a set of count value data points from within the queried timeframe. The historian device determines, based on the selected data points and their quality, an amount of products passed through the process element.

Optimistic data retrieval in a process control environment

A server system can include an internal computer network including at least one client server configured to establish a data transfer connection to an external computer network, and at least one proxy server system positioned between the internal computer network and the external computer network. The proxy server system can include a proxy server positioned between a first firewall and a second firewall, where the first firewall is positioned between the first proxy server and the internal computer network, and the second firewall is positioned between the proxy server and the external computer network. The server system can develop and maintain a proxy server system that includes a whitelist of sites deemed necessary and/or desirable for system operation. The whitelist can be updated as a user works with and uses the system. Such updates can take place continuously in real or near-real time or periodically as frequently as desired. A single party can be the only entity that can update the whitelist, ensuring the whitelist contains all required sites. Whitelist updates can be automatically delivered to all proxy instances as the whitelist changes over time.

Some embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for securing configuration information for cloud-based services. Some embodiments include a system comprising a data store and data sets including plant process information and configuration information. A memory device stores computer-executable instructions executable by a processor coupled to the cloud service. When executed, the instructions receive configuration information, store it in a data file, apply a generated certificate to the file, and deploy the resulting protected configuration data file to the cloud-based service. In addition, the protected configuration data file is made available by obtaining the file from the cloud-based service.

A server system can operate to function as an automatic association of tags defining a system within a process. The operations include accessing tags and associated signals including a plurality of data values over time indicative of a physical property, behavior or measurement of a component of the process. For each signal, calculating a time-weighted average over a specific time period, selecting a specific number of different day periods sampled from the tags and signals, and for each tag, calculating a slope and intercept by calculating a linear regression of plurality of signals over the specific time period. A memory device stores computer-executable instructions.
