An antenna arrangement comprising a dielectric element, at least one conductive element, an antenna radiator, and a plurality of exciter elements. The antenna radiator arranged at a first surface of the dielectric element and at a distance from the conductive element such that a gap is formed between the antenna radiator and a first surface of the conductive element. The exciter elements extend at least partially through a gap and are arranged on or adjacent to the conductive element. The antenna radiator may comprise a conductive material and be printed, sintered, painted, laminated, or deposited onto the first surface of the dielectric element, or molded into the dielectric element.

Multi-feed antenna arrangement for electronic apparatus

The present disclosure relates to an antenna array including an integral antenna element structure mounted on a substrate. The integral antenna element structure includes a first set of antenna elements and a second set of antenna elements. Each antenna element including a first body and an adjacent second body. The second body is branched into a first leg and a second leg, wherein a transition pin forms an integral part with said first leg. The first set, and second sets of antenna elements are arranged such that the first body and the second body of each adjacent antenna element form a common tapered structure.

Antenna array

An antenna arrangement for a communication device comprises a top conductive patch comprising at least a first coupling point and a second coupling point coupled to one or more feed circuits carrying a radio frequency (RF) signal to or from the top conductive patch. The RF signal has a first phase in the first coupling point and a second phase in the second coupling point. A first slot extends in the conductive patch between the first coupling point and the second coupling point. The antenna arrangement according enables a desired current distribution to be realized in the antenna in a controlled and systematic manner. A communication device includes such an antenna arrangement.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a dual-polarization antenna array that includes: a conductive structure having an aperture pattern including at least one first aperture and at least one second aperture, the first aperture(s) being directly interconnected with at least one second aperture. At least one first coupling element is connected to a first antenna feed line to excite a first electrical field having a first polarization. At least one second coupling element is connected to a second antenna feed line to excite a second electrical field having a second polarization. Each first coupling element is at least partially juxtaposed with one first aperture, allowing said first electrical field to be transmitted and/or received through said first aperture. Each second coupling element being at least partially juxtaposed with one second aperture, allowing said second electrical field to be transmitted and/or received through said second aperture.

Dual-polarization antenna array

A transmission line for transmitting radiofrequency range current between a first conductive element and a second conductive element, the transmission line comprising a signal current line and at least one return current line, the signal current line and the return current line(s) extending in parallel. Each current line comprises at least one first segment and at least one second segment. Each first segment is partially aligned with at least one adjacent second segment, aligned segments being separated by a first dielectric gap, and each aligned first segment and second segment forming a capacitive coupling across the first dielectric gap. This solution enables a transmission line which provides only small capacitive loading onto its surroundings, and which therefore can extend, e.g., through an antenna element without significantly affecting the performance of the antenna element.

Transmission line for radiofrequency range current

The invention relates to a sensor and a system for measuring pressure, variation in sound pressure, a magnetic field, acceleration, vibration, or the composition of a gas. The sensor comprises an ultrasound transmitter, a cavity, and a passive sensor element. In accordance with the invention the sensor includes antenna means for receiving radio frequency signals (f, f), and connecting means connecting the antenna to the ultrasound transmitter for using the radio frequency signals for providing energy for driving the ultrasound transmitter.

Sensor and a sensor system

In a RFID sensor tag, a sensing element is connected to an oscillator such that an oscillation frequency of the oscillator is dependent on a value of a predetermined variable sensed by the sensing element. The oscillation frequency of the oscillator is a harmonic multiple N of a modulation frequency required for a backscattering modulator. A frequency divider is arranged at the output of the oscillator to produce the modulation frequency from the oscillation frequency. The oscillator can be designed and dimensioned such that a high sensitivity is obtained with all sensor values, and the desired modulation frequency is derived resulting oscillation frequency by selecting a suitable division ratio N.

Passive RFID sensor tag

An RFID system includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader and at least one passive RFID sensor tag. A backscattered radio frequency signal from the passive RFID tag is modulated with an oscillation frequency which is dependent on a value of a quantity sensed by a sensing element. The RFID reader converts converting the oscillation frequency of the backscattered signal into an actual value of the sensed quantity based on predetermined sensor configuration information of the passive RFID sensor tag. The sensor configuration information includes information on a sensor element or sensor elements available in the passive RFID sensor tag, and particularly information how to convert the oscillation frequency of the backscattered signal into actual values of the quantity sensed by the respective sensing element.

Passive RFID sensor tag and RFID reader

The present invention related to a new passive wireless sensor platform which is based on the intermodulation communication principle. The platform may utilize a quartz crystal or other mechanical resonator. Additionally, the platform allows for a narrow bandwidth and/or ID-code of a sensor. Certain embodiments enable high frequencies and large read-out distances. It facilitates a generic sensor element and can thus be used to monitor virtually any quantity. Additionally, it offers a means to realize a wireless passive sensor using MEMS sensor technology.

Intermodulation sensor platform based on mechanical resonator

The RFID sensor tag may include normal RFID circuits and functions (such as rectifier, modulator, logic and memory) as well as a resonator-based clock generator or oscillator. The oscillator is a stable resonator-based oscillator having a high Q value. The resonator-based oscillator is loaded with a sensor element which tunes the oscillation frequency, i.e. the oscillation frequency is sensitive to the measured quantity. Thereby, a passive RFID sensor with a resonator-based oscillator and a sensor element is provided, wherein the oscillation frequency can be made dependent on the sensor element if sensing is required. The concept is compatible for existing RFID tags and can enable the possibility to measure external quantities with-out reducing the read-out distance.

Passive wireless sensor

A radio frequency identification (RFID) reader sequentially carries out inventory rounds with passive RFID sensor tags. Each RFID sensor tag has at least one sensing element arranged to sense a predetermined quantity. The reader reads one value of the predetermined quantity based on a backscattering modulation frequency used by the passive RFID sensor tag during each inventory round and releases the RFID sensor tag prior to reading next value of the predetermined quantity based on a backscattering modulation frequency used by the passive RFID sensor tag during a subsequent inventory round. If the passive RFID sensor comprises two or more sensing elements having different sensor characteristics, the reader reads one of the sensing elements of the passive RFID tag during one inventory round and releases the passive RFID sensor tag prior to reading another one of the sensing elements of the passive RFID sensor tag during a subsequent inventory round.

RFID reading method and RFID reader

An integrated passive radio frequency identification transponder chip includes a backscatter modulator for communication with a backscattering principle, a tag oscillator generating a backscattering modulation frequency, and a reference load, preferably a reference resonator. Either the reference load or at least one pair of an internal or external resonator and an external sensor element can be selectively connected to load the tag oscillator. Each external sensing element is arranged to sense a predetermined variable. The tag oscillator is capable of generating any one of nominal backscattering modulation frequencies defined for a respective RFID system, when the reference load is connected to load the tag oscillator. The tag oscillator is arranged to generate a predetermined one of nominal backscattering modulation frequencies, when the at least one pair of the internal or external resonator and the external sensor element is connected to load the tag oscillator.

Described herein is a passive wireless resonating non-linear sensor that is typically based on a ferroelectric varactor. The sensor replies its data at an intermodulation frequency when a reader device illuminates it at two closely-located frequencies. Furthermore, described herein is a general intermodulation read-out principle for passive wireless sensors. A sensor utilizes a mixing element, such as a varactor and it can be equipped with a capacitive, inductive, or resistive sensor element. When the sensor is illuminated with signals with two frequencies it replies the sensor data at an intermodulation frequency.

Non-linear resonating sensor and a method

This document describes a wireless sensor comprising a MEMS resonator and an antenna directly matched thereto. Also a method of reading the wireless sensor is described. The method comprises illuminating the wireless sensor with electromagnetic energy at a first and second frequencies and receiving an intermodulation signal emitted by the wireless sensor in response to said electromagnetic energy at the first and second frequencies.

Wireless MEMS sensor and method of reading the same

The invention relates to a method for ranging a radio frequency tag, comprising measuring the modulated backscattering response of the tag at a plurality of frequencies using reader and determining the dispersive properties of the tag from the amplitude of the measured backscattering response. Further, the method comprises determining a position parameter of the tag from the measured modulated backscattering response and the determined dispersive properties of the tag.
