A method for modification of the surface of industrial rubber articles involving treatment of these articles with ionizing radiation in the form of an electric glow discharge and applying a polymer layer onto their surface by admitting into a chamber vapors of esters of methacrylic acid or acrylic acid, and fluorinated alcohol simultaneously with the rubber articles being treated in the electric glow discharge. This method of modifying of the surface of industrial rubber goods makes it possible to reduce the coefficient of friction of articles made by the aforesaid method, from 2 to 10 times depending on the nature of the rubber, increase productivity of machines and apparatus, and prolong the service life of packing assemblies of automobile units.

Method for modification of the surface of industrial rubber articles

A process for the manufacture of industrial rubber articles comprises vulcanization of a rubber mix, wherein prior to vulcanization the rubber mix is treated with a fluoroorganic compound and after vulcanization the articles are placed into a sealed chamber with the pressure therein below 10 Pa. An electric glow discharge is ignited in the chamber and the articles are treated therewith. The treatment with the electric glow discharge is stopped when a residual pressure in the chamber of below 100 Pa is reached. The process for the manufacture of industrial rubber articles according to the present invention makes it possible to produce articles with a coefficient of friction on their surface of from 0.2 to 0.6 depending on the type of rubber and enables an increase in productivity of machines and apparatus.

Process for the manufacture of industrial rubber articles

Proposed is a device for radiochromatographic analysis of mixtures of substances containing components tagged by radioactive isotopes, such as soft .beta.-isotopes comprising a chromatographic column, a detector of nuclear radiation and a chromatographic detector connected in series along the flow of the substance being analyzed. The detector of nuclear radiation is provided with a cell made as a tube with a scintillator applied onto its inner surface in the form of a solid layer. The tube is provided with movable means for sequentialy cooling and heating the same and a light detector which is movable along the length of the tube. In operation, upon introduction of the portion of the mixture being analyzed into the column, with the heater interacting with the tube, the heater and cooler are moved so that by the time the last component of the mixture exits from the column, the cooler is in interacting relationship with the tube whereby the components of the mixture are frozen. According to one mode of operation, the light detector is then moved to register the glow of the strips of the radioactive components whereby a radiochromatogram can be derived.

Apparatus for radiochromatographic analysis of mixture of substances

According to the proposed method for producing solid-porous synthetic rubber articles, a preselected portion of a molded blank of a raw V-like polymeric elastomer compound containing a blowing agent is subjected to ionizing radiation at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent, after which said blank is subjected to heat treatment at a temperature higher than, or equal to the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent. Despite its simplicity, the disclosed method provides for producing solid-porous rubber-like articles featuring high strength of their solid portion and excellent sealing qualities of their porous portion.
