A heat exchanger comprising at least one pipe () and at least one lamina (), for exchanging heat between a first coolant that flows through the pipe () and a second coolant that wets the heat exchanger under the influence of centrifugal forces in order to be cooled and to be available to further cool a rotating machine element () that is situated in a housing (). The heat exchanger is of approximately ring-shaped design, essentially surrounds the rotating machine element () and is integrated into the housing ().

Heat exchanger and method of manufacturing

The invention involves a heat exchanger in modular circuit board design, with a connecting plate, in particular a charge air cooler, which is located in a housing into which the charge air flows in and out, at which the air flows through the charge air cooler, and at which the housing has a mounting opening into which the charge air cooler can be inserted and installed by means of its connecting plate. The construction improves the absorption of oscillation and vibration, if, according to the invention, the body of the heat exchanger is equipped with mounting devices which work together with corresponding mounting devices in the interior of the housing.

Heat exchanger and method of mounting

An exhaust heat exchanger for an exhaust gas recirculation system, including a first flow path for the intake air for an internal combustion engine, a second flow path for the exhaust of an internal combustion engine, and a housing enclosing the first and second flow paths. The first and second flow paths are each divided into a plurality of flow channels in heat-conducting, metallically connected contact with each other, and the flow channels include elements promoting heat exchange between the flow channels.

Exhaust heat exchanger

A flat heat exchanger tube formed of a single strip of rolled aluminum, with at least one connection between the two broad sides. The connection is generally parallel to and spaced between the narrow sides and divides the heat exchanger tube into at least two chambers, and includes two legs consisting of bent opposite edges of the aluminum strip, the legs each having a head at adjacent bends along one of the broad sides and feet adjacent the other broad side. The legs lie against each other generally at their head over no more than half of the entire spacing between the two broad sides, with the legs enclosing an angle between them of about 20&#xb0; to 100&#xb0; or about 45&#xb0; to 75&#xb0;, advantageously 60&#xb0;.

Flat heat exchanger tube

A heat exchanger including a stack of flat tubes for gas and a housing for the stack of flat tubes, with the housing enclosing only part of the periphery of the flat tube stack. The tubes have wide and narrow sides and are spaced to form channels therebetween for flow of a coolant. Cross-sectional widenings along the length of the tubes assist in maintaining the flat tubes in a spaced condition along the periphery not enclosed by the housing, and close the channels along the tube stack periphery not enclosed by the housing.

Flat tube heat exchanger with housing

A heat exchanger including a collecting tank having an outwardly extending flange around an edge, a tube plate having a connection edge, tubes having ends extending into openings in the tube plate, and an intermediate plate having an edge lying against the connection edge of the tube plate. The connection edges of the intermediate plate and the tube plate are both mechanically connected to the flange of the collecting tank. Pins in the corners of one of the tube plate and the intermediate plate secure the tube plate and intermediate plate together. The connection edge of the plates include protrusions bendable onto the edge flange of the collecting tank.

Heat exchanger and method of producing

A heat exchanger including flat tubes having cooling passages for a gas and a bypass for the gas separate from the cooling passages, and coolant channels defined between every two flat tubes adjacent the tube passages and spaced from the bypass of the tubes. The tubes define a cooled area adjacent the passages and an uncooled area adjacent the bypass substantially spaced from the channels.

Flat tube exhaust heat exchanger with bypass

A heat exchanger () includes a stack () of heat exchanger tubes (), with the stack () having a pair of spaced ends () that are received into respective manifolds () that direct a first fluid (), such as an exhaust gas flow of a vehicle, to and from interiors () of the tubes (). The manifolds () and () are bonded to the respective ends () and () using a suitable bonding technique, such as soldering. Each end () has an outer periphery () that includes furrows () and elongate, narrow protrusions (), and each manifold () has a wall () that extends continuously around the associated end () and includes inwardly directed ridges () that are received in the furrows () and elongate slots () that receive the protrusions () to provide a tight joint between the wall () and the associated end (). Preferably, the ridges () and slots () extends longitudinally along the wall () a sufficient distance to allow the wall () to be pushed over a length of the associated end () sufficient to provide an adequately large joining surface between the wall () and the associated end (), thereby allowing for a qualitatively high-grade soldering connection.

Heat exchanger

A housingless plate heat exchanger including a plate stack defining fluid passages, at least one collecting tank with a peripheral edge enclosing one end of the plate stack, and a valve receivable in the collecting tank through an assembly opening of the soldered collecting tank and plate stack. The collecting tank and plate stack are soldered together and have a fluid opening. A method of manufacturing the heat exchanger includes the steps of assembling plates of the plate heat exchanger in a plate stack, placing a collecting tank on one end of the plate stack, soldering the plate stack and collecting tank together, and after the soldering step mounting a valve in the collecting tank.

Heat exchanger with valve

A housingless heat exchanger including a stack of flat tubes with at least two being cooling tubes and at least one being a bypass tube. Collecting tanks are on the tube ends and diffuse gas streaming in the tube flow paths. The flat tubes each comprise a connected pair of plates defining a flow path, and an enclosed space is defined between adjacent flat tubes. Coolant inlet and outlet channels are formed by connected plate openings connect to the enclosed space between the cooling tubes whereby coolant flows through that enclosed space. A switching valve in one collecting tank is movable between a cooling position in which the gas streams through the cooling tubes and a bypass position in which the gas streams through the bypass tube. A closure in the coolant inlet and outlet channels blocks coolant from adjacent the bypass tube. An insulating plate may also, or alternatively, be between the bypass tube and the cooling tube adjacent the bypass tube to block heat exchange between coolant and the bypass tube.

A housing-less plate heat exchanger is provided for transferring heat between at least a first fluid and a second fluid. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of heat exchange plates stacked to enclose flow channels for the first and second fluids between the plates, a first intermediate plate pair sandwiched between a first and second stack of the heat exchange plates, and a barrier located between the plates of the intermediate plate pair to separate the first fluid from the second fluid. The intermediate plate pair includes a first fluid port extending laterally from the heat exchanger to transfer the first fluid between the heat exchanger and a device other than the heat exchanger. The intermediate plates are joined to enclose a first chamber, with the first chamber opening to the first fluid port and to a manifold for the first fluid to direct the first fluid between the first fluid port and the manifold.

Housing-less plate heat exchanger

A heat exchanger having a manifold defined by a plurality of connected closure pieces. A corner of the manifold is defined by the connected joint of three closure pieces, where one closure piece has a bent edge abutting an end of a second closure piece adjacent a generally flat section of a third closure piece. The bent edge of the one closure piece adjacent the manifold corner is a bend in a thin portion of the one closure piece, where the thin portion has a sheet thickness which is less than the sheet thickness of the adjacent portions of the one closure piece. Multiple corners of the manifold can be formed in this manner by thinning the thin and bending the portion, then connecting the closure pieces using solder to form a seal in the open cross section at the corners.

Heat exchanger and method of production

An integrated condenser/receiver includes a multi-pass heat exchanger core, an elongated receiver housing, and a refrigerant conduit to direct refrigerant between the receiver housing and the multi-pass heat exchanger core. The heat exchanger core includes an elongate header extending along an axis, a plurality of tubes extending parallel to each other and transverse to the axis to direct a refrigerant through the core, with the tubes spaced along the header and having ends received therein to direct refrigerant to and from the header, and at least one baffle in the header to separate the header into a first portion that receives refrigerant from a first set of the tubes and a second portion that directs refrigerant to a second set of the tubes. Each of the set of tubes defines a refrigerant pass through the core. The receiver housing is mounted to the core, with the second set of tubes located between the receiver housing and the first set of tubes. The receiver housing includes a first port connected to the second portion. The refrigerant conduit is connected to the first portion and to the receiver housing to direct refrigerant between the first portion and the receiver housing.

Integrated condenser/receiver

Both dynamic and static cooling capability for cooling electronic or electrical components on a circuit board is achieved in a heat exchanger that includes a circuit board on which the components to be cooled are mounted together with a coolant channel with a coolant inlet and a coolant outlet in heat exchange contact with the circuit board. The heat exchanger includes a container defining a coolant depot adjacent to and in heat exchange relation with the flow channel and adapted to contain a coolant to accept heat rejected by the components when coolant is not flowing in the coolant channel between the inlet and the outlet.

Heat exchanger for electronic/electrical components

A heat exchanger including a core having a plurality of flat tubes with fins between adjacent tubes, the tubes each having flat side walls connected by front and rear walls defining a flow path, all of the walls extending longitudinally between opposite tube ends with the tube side walls defining a first height. First tube end portions in the tube ends of a plurality of the plurality of flat tubes include flat side walls flared apart to define a second height greater than the first height. Second tube end portions in the tube ends of the plurality of the plurality of flat tubes include a longitudinally extending cut through the front and rear walls with the flat side walls flared apart to define a third height greater than the second height. The side walls of adjacent tubes are secured together at the tube ends, and headers connect to the tube front and rear walls at the first and second tube end portions whereby the headers communicate with the tube flow paths.
