A tamper resistant electrical receptacle is disclosed that includes a cover having two cover apertures, a platform, a slider positioned between the cover and the platform and coupled to the platform, and a coil spring. The platform includes two platform apertures aligned with the two cover apertures, a channel between the two platform apertures, and a pin trap channel separate from the two platform apertures for trapping a pin inserted into one of the two cover apertures. The slider includes a post that engages the channel, and shutters connected to the post. The coil spring is coupled to the slider and has a resting state in which the shutters are interposed between the cover and platform apertures, and a compressed state in which the shutters are not interposed. The slider glides along the channel of the platform as the coil spring moves between the resting and compressed states.

Tamper resistant electrical receptacle

A tamper resistant (TR) mechanism for use in a receptacle is disclosed. The TR mechanism movable between a first or blocking position and a second position wherein a two-bladed plug with a ground pin may contact the underlining conductive terminals so that electricity can flow to the electrical plug. The TR mechanism may include first and second sliders for blocking the openings formed in the receptacle, first and second locking tabs, and a ground pin slider partially located with a ground plug opening formed in the receptacle. In use, inserting the ground pin causes the ground pin slider to move to a second ground pin slider position, which causes the first and second locking tabs to align with a stem portion of the ground pin slider. Thereafter, contacting the first and second sliders with the two-bladed plug causes the first and second sliders to move to their second position.

Tamper-resistant electrical wiring device system

The present invention relates to an illuminated receptacle. In one particularly preferred embodiment, the receptacle preferably includes a body, a cover for coupling to said body, said cover having one or more sockets for receiving a plug, a tamper resistant (TR) platform associated with each of the one or more sockets, each of the TR platforms being disposed between the body and the cover, each of the TR platforms including a cavity and an aperture extending thru said platform in said cavity, a slider disposed within each of the cavities of the platform and aligned with the openings of a respective socket, and a light source disposed within each of the apertures formed in the platforms, the light sources operatively coupled to electrical power for generating light to illuminate said slider, the light sources being positioned to directly transmit light to the sliders.

The present invention is directed to a device for regulating an amount of electrical power provided to at least one electrical load, the device comprising a control circuit disposed in the housing and including at least one switch device movable between a first switch state and a second switch state. The control circuit further includes a power control element that has a power control actuator configured to adjust the amount of power provided to the at least one electrical load. A variable control actuator is accessible to the user via the control aperture and coupled to the power control actuator via a linkage structure. The linkage structure further includes a pin and channel arrangement configured to convert a user control action into a power control actuator adjustment by translating rotational motion into linear motion or linear motion into rotational motion.

The contact includes a main body, a first segment that is an extension of the main body and substantially parallel to the main body, a second segment substantially perpendicular to the main body and the first segment, a third segment substantially perpendicular to the second segment and substantially parallel to the main body and the first segment, a first wipe that extends from the first segment, a second wipe that extends from the second segment, and a third wipe that extends from the third segment.

The present invention is directed to a device for controlling electrical power provided to at least one electrical load. The actuator retainer housing includes a toggle actuator disposed adjacent to a variable control actuator in a side-by-side arrangement within the actuator retainer housing with no framing or support structure disposed therebetween. The variable control actuator includes a rotatable axial variable control mounting structure coupled to the actuator retainer housing. The axial toggle mounting structure and the axial variable control mounting structure are substantially parallel to a central latitudinal axis. An electronic control circuit is coupled to the plurality of control terminals and the modular switch actuation assembly. The electronic control circuit is configured to respond to actuations of the toggle actuator and/or the variable control actuator.

A platform and slider assembly for use in a tamper resistant receptacle is provided. The tamper resistant receptacle includes a cover having first and second non-grounding apertures formed therein. In use, when a set of blades of a plug is inserted simultaneously through the first and second apertures formed in the cover, the blades make contact with the at least one angled surface on the slider urging the at least one angled surface of the slider to move with respect to the angled surface of the platform such that the slider is urged from the first position to the second position. The first and second apertures formed in the platform define an axis extending from the first aperture to the second aperture; and the slider moves relative to the platform in a direction orthogonal to the axis extending from the first aperture to the second aperture.

The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring device having a body and a cover coupled to the body including a receptacle face structure which forms an interior region with at least one reflective surface. At least one light emitting device is disposed in the interior region which is configured to emit illumination into at least one neutral opening and a hot opening.

The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring box assembly that includes an inner wall box including a peripheral inner wall bounded and enclosed by a rear wall and open at a front end of the inner wall box to form an inner volume. The inner wall box also includes an inner wall flange extending in a substantially perpendicular direction from an exterior surface of the peripheral inner wall at predetermined distance from the front inner wall box end. The inner wall flange includes a plurality of apertures formed therein. The inner wall box further includes a plurality of device mounting bosses extending in a substantially perpendicular direction from an interior surface of the rear wall. An intermediate box includes a peripheral intermediate wall portion configured to fit within the inner volume. The peripheral intermediate wall is bounded by a rear ledge extending inwardly and perpendicularly from a back end of the peripheral intermediate wall to form an intermediate volume in communication with the inner volume at the back end and open at a front intermediate wall box end The intermediate box further includes an outer wall flange extending in a substantially perpendicular direction from an exterior surface of the peripheral intermediate wall at predetermined distance from the front end of the peripheral intermediate wall. A rear wall portion of the outer wall flange is configured to abut the front inner wall box end such that the rear edge is substantially aligned with the plurality of device mounting bosses. A cover assembly is removably coupled to the intermediate box, the cover assembly providing access to the intermediate volume in an open position and substantially sealing the intermediate volume and the inner volume in a closed position.

Recessed while-in-use electrical box

The present invention is directed to an electrical wiring device for use in an ambient environment. The device includes a cover assembly characterized by a perimeter defining a user-accessible front face portion of the wiring device. The cover assembly includes at least one user-accessible control feature disposed therein. A body member is connected to the cover assembly. A circuit arrangement is disposed in the body member, at least a portion of the circuit arrangement being in operative communication with the at least one user-accessible control feature. A gasket structure is integrated into the cover assembly and disposed under the front face portion to substantially seal the circuit arrangement from the ambient environment. The gasket structure includes at least one gasket feature coupling the at least one user-accessible control feature and the at least a portion of the circuit arrangement. The gasket structure extends from the perimeter a predetermined distance to form a gasket perimeter defining an environmentally protected area. The environmentally protected area is greater than or substantially equal to a coverage area of a standard wall plate.
