Dynamic discovery of network functions in mobility interworking across radio access technologies

A virtual network manager system comprising a server in communication with a node, the server including at least one virtual network function (VNF), a cluster manager in communication with the server, the cluster manager is configured to detect a change in a health of the VNF on the server and when the change in the health of the VNF occurs generate a signal to a node to perform an action, the action including at least one of throttling traffic to the VNF, rerouting traffic to an alternate VNF, changing a weight value for traffic to the VNF, and generating an alert indicating a relative capacity change at the VNF.

Virtual network manager system

Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for virtual probes. A processor can execute a probe orchestrator service. The processor can obtain traffic monitoring data that describes traffic associated with a logical node. The logical node can include two or more devices that can exchange information as internal traffic. The processor can analyze the traffic monitoring data to determine one of the two or more devices hosts external traffic that involves an external device that resides outside of the logical node. In response to a determination that the one of the two or more devices hosts the external traffic, the processor can trigger instantiation of a virtual probe at the device of the plurality of devices.

Virtual probes

Automated offloading of subscribers in a system having a set of mobility management entities (MMEs) during mobility management equipment failures is provided. Each MME maintains performance status and location information about all MMEs. When an MME senses performance degradation the traffic directed to that MME is allocated among the remaining MMEs in the set.

Method, system, and computer program for automated offloading of subscribers during mobility management equipment failures

A method comprises predicting, based on corresponding historical workload data, a change in virtual network function demand during a future workload period, wherein the virtual network function is supported by a node. The method further comprises determining a target clock speed of one or more physical CPU cores of one or more processors of one or more servers in the node corresponding to the change in the virtual network function demand and adjusting the CPU CORE of the node to the target clock speed corresponding to the change in the virtual network function demand for the future workload period.

Workload prediction based CPU frequency scaling

A dynamic recovery system for a network comprising: an orchestrator, the orchestrator communicates with at least one mobility management entity in the network to monitor at least one of a key performance and a key capacity indicator; the orchestrator upon detecting that the at least one the key performance and key capacity indicator is above an operator configured threshold: instantiates at least one virtual mobility management entity, disables a communications profile towards the mobility management entity, and provides a communications profile toward at least one virtual mobility management entity.

Dynamic mobility network recovery system

The described technology is generally directed towards automated acceptance testing of network functions so that only certified network functions are deployed in a wireless network. When a network function attempts to register in a network, e.g., with a network function repository, the registration attempt triggers a workflow that obtains a result of automated testing of the network function. The automated testing operation can be based on a test suite selected according to the network function type and the network slice in which the network function is to be deployed. Only upon determining that the network function passed the automated testing operation is the network function registered (by the network function repository) for operation in the wireless network.

Automated certification of network functions

Pairing of a radio access network (RAN) slice to a core network (CN) slice is disclosed. The pairing can be based on RAN slice information, CN slice information, and device information. The device information can enable access to corresponding information from a data store, such as historical pairing correlated to a device, device type, etc. Moreover, other supplemental information, such as service information, can also be employed in determining the pairing. In an aspect, the other supplemental information can enable access to corresponding information form a data store, such as other CN slices comprising an identified virtual network function, historical performance of previously determined pairing(s), etc. A determined pairing can be modified before provisioning or after provisioning based on the RAN slice information, CN slice information, supplemental information, or corresponding information. Further, pairing information can be employed to directly initiate pairing or to cause another device to initiate pairing.

Adaptive pairing of a radio access network slice to a core network slice based on device information or service information

The described technology is generally directed towards selectively steering wireless network data packet traffic to a network edge cloud, which reduces backhaul bandwidth and facilitates ultra-low latency communications. In one aspect, upon receiving a request for data communication by a user equipment in the wireless network, location information is used to override a centralized access point name (e.g., 4G serving gateway/packet gateway, S/PGW, or 5G user plane function) with an edge-located access point name (edge 4G S/PGW or edge 5G user plane function). This facilitates the data communication between the user equipment and an edge-located access point device associated with the edge-located access point name.

Mobile edge computing for data network traffic

A method and apparatus for providing a virtual network function in a visited network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an attach request or a handover for a user endpoint device, determines a home network for the user endpoint device, receives a profile of the user endpoint device, determines a policy for providing a service to the user endpoint device in accordance with the profile, determines a set of virtual network functions needed for providing the service to the user endpoint device in accordance with the policy, grants the attach request or the handover, designates for each virtual network function of the set of virtual network functions that is needed for providing the service, a corresponding virtual network function for serving the user endpoint device at a location of the user endpoint device, and provides the service to the user endpoint device via the set of virtual network functions.

Method and apparatus for providing a virtual network function in a network

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, allocating virtual network function resources for a wireless connection with a gateway device, facilitating establishing the wireless connection with the gateway device utilizing the virtual network function resources to provide for transmitting of data from the gateway device to an application server where the data is stored by the gateway device until a determination is made that a threshold associated with the data has been satisfied, and tearing down the virtual network function resources responsive to a determination that the transmitting of the data from the gateway device to the application server via the wireless connection has been completed. Other embodiments are disclosed.
