In some implementations, a first packet forwarding device (PFD) may obtain a probe packet. The first PFD may replicate the probe packet forming multiple copies of the probe packet. The first PFD may transmit, to the first PFD and to multiple other PFDs, the multiple copies of the probe packet. The first PFD may receive a first copy of the probe packet and multiple response packets, with the first copy of the probe packet originating at the first PFD, and with each of the multiple response packets originating at a respective one of the multiple other PFDs based on the respective one of the multiple other PFDs receiving one of the multiple copies of the probe packet. The first PFD may determine, based on the first copy of the probe packet and the multiple response packets, a status of multiple links associated with the first PFD.

Multicast liveness detection

In this disclosure, in a network comprising a plurality of network devices, a network device includes processing circuitry configured to: receive packet data corresponding to a network flow originating at a first device, the packet data destined to a second device; generate an entropy label to add to a label stack of the packet data, wherein the entropy label is generated from one or more attributes corresponding to the network flow that originated at the first device and is destined to the second device; generate a flow record including the entropy label, wherein the entropy label identifies the network flow amongst a plurality of network flows in the network; and send, to a controller of the network, the flow record, wherein the controller identifies the flow record based on the entropy label corresponding to the network flow originating at the first device and is destined to the second device.

End-to-end flow monitoring in a computer network

A method includes receiving multicast traffic intended for host devices; identifying a flow associated with the multicast traffic; retrieving information associated with a group of multicast trees, where the group of multicast trees includes information associated with a group of I/O units, associated with a network node; identifying a particular tree that corresponds to the identified flow, where the particular tree includes information associated with a set of I/O units; and transferring the multicast traffic to an I/O unit, of the set of I/O units, based on the identification of the particular tree, where the transferring enables the I/O unit to send a copy of the multicast traffic to other I/O units of the set of I/O units, and the set of I/O units to process the multicast traffic in a manner that utilizes bandwidth or processing resources in a controlled manner and to send a copy of the multicast traffic to each of the host devices.
