A polygon mirror that includes a top surface, a bottom surface, and a plurality of reflective surfaces disposed between the top surface and the bottom surface. Each reflective surface of the plurality of reflective surfaces forms an angle θ with an adjacent reflective surface. Additionally, each reflective surface of the polygon mirror has an RMS surface roughness of about 1.5 nm or less.

A cold-formed glass laminate () may include a first ply () of 3D formed glass with a first thickness, a first strength, and a first coefficient of thermal expansion. The laminate () may also include a second ply () of 3D formed glass with a second thickness less than the first thickness, a second strength greater than the first strength, and a second coefficient of thermal expansion. The second coefficient of thermal expansion may be selected to be sufficiently higher than the first coefficient of thermal expansion to induce residual compressive stresses in the first ply () due to cold forming therewith. An adhesive layer () may be arranged between the first ply () and the second ply ().

Edge strength using CTE mismatch

A cold-formed glass laminate may include a first ply of 3D formed glass with a first thickness and a first strength. The first ply may include pre-formed residual compressive stresses in a peripheral edge portion adapted to offset tensile stresses resulting from a cold-forming process. The laminate may also include a second ply of 3D formed glass with a second thickness less than the first thickness and a second strength greater than the first strength. An adhesive may be arranged between the first ply and the second ply and post-formed residual stresses in the peripheral edge portion of the first ply of the laminate may remain compressive. A method of forming a glass laminate with compressive edge stresses is also described.

Edge stress using differential cooling

Articles and methods related to the cold-forming of glass laminate articles utilizing stress prediction analysis are provided. A cold-forming estimator (CFE) value that is related to the stress experienced by a glass sheet of a glass laminate during cold-forming is calculated based on a plurality of geometric parameters of glass layer(s) of a glass laminate article. The calculated CFE value is compared to a cold-forming threshold related to the probability that defects are formed in the complexly curved glass laminate article during cold-forming. Cold-formed glass laminate articles are also provided having geometric parameters such that the CFE value is below the cold-forming threshold.

Cold-formability of glass laminate article utilizing stress prediction analysis and related methods

A vehicle includes a body of the vehicle and a sensing system coupled to the body. The sensing system includes optical componentry and a glass material, where the glass material at least in part houses the optical componentry and the glass material is at least partially transparent to light at the wavelength of the optical componentry. Further the glass material has mechanical and performance properties that allow the sensing system to be positioned particularly low on the vehicle, at a position that may be of higher risk for damage from debris.

A lighting device is provided that includes a light source package including a diode disposed in a housing and emitting light at an emission point within the housing. The lighting device also has an optical fiber extending through an opening in the housing and having a terminal end optically aligned on an optical axis with the diode to within a distance of less than 1.0 millimeter from the emission point, wherein the fiber emits light via a light diffusing fiber.

Devices and methods for optical-fiber processing for connector applications are disclosed, wherein the devices and methods utilize a quantum cascade laser operated under select processing parameters to carry out end face polishing. The method includes supporting the optical fiber in a ferrule so that a bare end section of the fiber protrudes from an end of the ferrule by a protrusion distance. The method then includes irradiating the end face with light from the quantum cascade laser to polish the end face. The quantum cascade laser can also be used to form a bump in a central portion of the end face, wherein the bump facilitates physical contact between respective end faces of connected optical fibers.

Quantum cascade laser devices and methods for optical-fiber processing for connector applications

A hyperspectral imaging system and method are described herein for providing a hyperspectral image of an area of a remote object (e.g., scene of interest). The hyperspectral imaging system includes at least one optic, a scannable slit mechanism, a spectrometer, a two-dimensional image sensor, and a controller. The scannable slit mechanism can be a micro-electromechanical system spatial light modulator (MEMS SLM), a diffractive Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) spatial light modulator (SLM), a digital light processing (DLP) system, a liquid crystal display, a rotating drum with at least one slit formed therein, or a rotating disk with at least one slit formed therein.

Hyperspectral imaging system and method for imaging a remote object

An apparatus for providing pump light of a first wavelength &#x3bb;to a laser that emits a second wavelength &#x3bb;has first and second lasers of the wavelength &#x3bb;to direct light along first and second axes in a first direction. The first and second axes define a first plane P. To form a composite light beam of wavelength &#x3bb;, a filter apparatus has a first filter on a first surface at an oblique angle to the first and second axes and that transmits &#x3bb;and reflects &#x3bb;. A second filter on a second surface parallel to the first surface, reflects &#x3bb;and transmits &#x3bb;. A third filter formed on the first surface coplanar with the first filter reflects &#x3bb;and transmits &#x3bb;. The filter apparatus re-aligns the first and second axes along a second plane P, orthogonal to Pand parallel to the first direction.

Method and apparatus for combining light sources in a pump laser array

Methods of optimizing optical alignment in an optical package are provided. In one embodiment, the optical package includes a laser diode, a wavelength conversion device, coupling optics positioned along an optical path extending from the laser diode to the wavelength conversion device, and one or more adaptive actuators. The method involves adjusting the optical alignment of the wavelength conversion device in a non-adaptive degree of freedom by referring to a thermally-dependent output intensity profile of the laser diode and a thermally-dependent coupling efficiency profile of the optical package. The adjustment in the non-adaptive degree of freedom is quantified such that, over a given operating temperature range of the optical package, portions of the coupling efficiency profile characterized by relatively low coupling efficiency offset portions of the output intensity profile characterized by relatively high laser output intensity and portions of the coupling efficiency profile characterized by relatively high coupling efficiency offset portions of the output intensity profile characterized by relatively low laser output intensity. Additional embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

Alignment optimization for optical packages

A method for operating a frequency converted light source includes sweeping a wavelength control signal of a semiconductor laser over an initial signal range and measuring an optical power of an output beam emitted from a wavelength conversion device coupled to the semiconductor laser. The wavelength control signal of the semiconductor laser may then be swept over at least one truncated signal range and the optical power of the resulting output beam is measured. The at least one truncated signal range may be centered on a point corresponding to a maximum power of the output beam of the sweep of the wavelength control signal over the preceding signal range. An operational signal range for the wavelength control signal is determined such that a midpoint of the operational signal range corresponds to the maximum optical power of the resulting output beam of the sweep over the preceding signal range. Closed-loop feedback control of the wavelength control signal in the operational signal range may then be initiated.

The present disclosure relates generally to semiconductor lasers and laser projection systems. According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method of operating a laser projection system is provided. According to the method, the laser projection system is utilized to display a sequence of pixelized image frames comprising an alternating sequence of relatively high intensity active projection periods Modand relatively low intensity inactive projection periods Mod. A complementary control signal transitions between an active state Qduring the relatively high intensity active projection periods Modand an inactive state Qduring the relatively low intensity inactive projection periods Mod. The transition of the complementary control signal from the inactive state Qto the active state Qis conditioned to anticipate initiation of relatively high intensity active projection periods Modsuch that it is optimized upon initiation of the relatively high intensity active projection periods Mod. Additional embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
