An apparatus for controlling a subsea blowout preventor (BOP) includes a control system for controlling a subsea BOP of a subsea stack assembly installed over a subsea oil and gas well. The control system includes a first topside control device and a second topside control device, and a first subsea control device and a second subsea control device. The first topside control device, the second topside control device, the first subsea control device, and the second subsea control device are each communicatively connected with the BOP and operable to control operation of the BOP. The first subsea control device is a portion of a first control pod of the subsea stack assembly. The second subsea control device is a portion of a second control pod of the subsea stack assembly. The first topside control device is communicatively connected with the second topside control device via a ring communication network.

Communication networks for BOP control

A system for controlling equipment at a wellsite includes a surface PLC, a first subsea PLC, a second subsea PLC, a first CAN module, a second CAN module, and a CAN network. The surface PLC is configured to receive a parameter that is measured by a sensor and to transmit a first signal to the first subsea PLC, the second subsea PLC, or both in response to the parameter. The first subsea PLC or the second subsea PLC, or both are configured to transmit a second signal to the first CAN module, the second CAN module, or both in response to the first signal. The first CAN module, the second CAN module, or both are configured to transmit a third signal to the CAN network in response to the second signal. The CAN network is configured to control the equipment in response to the third signal.

Can-open master redundancy in PLC-based control system

An accumulator system includes a housing, including a motor housing including an electric motor, a function chamber and an anti-rotating chamber each coupled to the motor housing, a balance chamber, a transfer chamber disposed between the anti-rotating chamber and the balance chamber, a shaft configured to move axially within the function chamber, the anti-rotating chamber, and the transfer chamber, a first piston coupled to a first end of the shaft, a second piston coupled to a second end of the shaft, and third piston configured to separate the transfer chamber from the balance chamber. The electric motor is coupled to and drives the shaft to alternatingly compress working fluid with the first piston in the function chamber to drive the working fluid out of the function chamber, and compress transfer fluid with the second piston in the transfer chamber to drive the transfer fluid out of the transfer chamber.

Electrical accumulator system with internal transfer barrier

A drilling and production system is provided. In one embodiment, such a system has a plurality of functions that are effectuated at least predominately without hydraulic fluid. The system can be a drilling system having a rig and a subsea stack for performing various drilling functions, in which a majority of the drilling functions are effected electrically without hydraulic control fluid. In another embodiment, the rig is coupled to a subsea wellhead assembly but is not connected so as to provide hydraulic control fluid from the rig to the subsea wellhead assembly to enable drilling functions of the subsea wellhead assembly. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Electrical drilling and production systems and methods

A system an annular sleeve configured to be positioned in an annular space between a first annular component and a second annular component of a drilling system. The annular sleeve includes a radially-inner annular surface and a radially-outer annular surface. The annular sleeve also includes a first annular seal element coupled to the radially-inner annular surface and configured to seal against the first annular component, a second annular seal element coupled to the radially-outer annular surface and configured to seal against the second annular component, and one or more axially-extending passageways extending from a first end to a second end of the annular sleeve. The annular sleeve is configured to direct a fluid flow through the one or more axially-extending passageways across the annular sleeve.

Pressure control systems and methods

An accumulator system includes a chamber configured to receive a first fluid, a piston configured to move within the chamber to pressurize and drive the first fluid out of the chamber, a driving shaft coupled to the piston, a screw adapter coupled to the driving shaft, a plurality of anti-rotation shafts, and an electric actuator configured to couple to the screw adapter and to rotate the screw adapter to axially move the driving shaft. The piston includes a body defining a first aperture and a plurality of counterbores. The driving shaft is coupled to the piston via the first aperture. The piston is configured to slide over the plurality of anti-rotation shafts via the plurality of counterbores.

Accumulator system

A rotating control device (RCD) system includes a housing having a bore, a seal element positioned within the housing, a piston assembly supported within the housing and configured to drive the seal element to seal the bore, and a bearing assembly supported within the housing and configured to enable the seal element to rotate relative to the housing. The bearing assembly includes a first bearing section positioned between the housing and the seal element and a second bearing section positioned between a piston of the piston assembly and the seal element. The piston assembly is configured to selectively actuate the seal element into a first configuration, where the seal element extends into the bore and seals with a tubular therein, and a second configuration, where the seal element extends entirely through the bore and seals the bore without a tubular extending therein.

Rotating control device system

A drilling and production system is provided. In one embodiment, such a system has a plurality of functions that are effectuated at least predominately without hydraulic fluid. The system can be a drilling system having a rig () and a subsea stack () for performing various drilling functions, in which a majority of the drilling functions are effected electrically without hydraulic control fluid. In another embodiment, the rig is coupled to a subsea wellhead assembly () but is not connected so as to provide hydraulic control fluid from the rig to the subsea wellhead assembly to enable drilling functions of the subsea wellhead assembly. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

An accumulator system that includes a housing. The housing defines a function chamber and a balance chamber. A piston moves axially within the housing. The piston separates the function chamber from the balance chamber. An electric actuator couples to and drives the piston within the housing to compress and drive a first fluid out of the function chamber.

A double acting accumulator system includes a housing including an actuator housing, a first piston housing coupled to the actuator housing, a second piston housing coupled to the actuator housing, a shaft configured to move axially within the first piston housing and the second piston housing, a first piston coupled to a first end of the shaft, a second piston coupled to a second end of the shaft, an electric actuator configured to couple to and drive the shaft to alternatingly compress fluid with the first piston in the first piston housing and the second piston in the second piston housing to drive fluid out of the respective first piston housing and the second piston housing, and a plurality of anti-rotation shafts configured to block rotation of the shaft.

A drilling riser cable management system includes a plurality of clamping mechanisms pre-installed on riser joints and a robotic arm. The robotic arm has a cable handling mechanism that is configured to securely install the cable on each clamping mechanism without relying on human manipulation of the cable during installation.

Cable management on marine drilling risers

A rotating control device (RCD) system includes a housing having a bore, a seal element positioned within the housing, a piston assembly supported within the housing and configured to drive the seal element to seal the bore, and a bearing assembly supported within the housing and configured to enable the seal element to rotate relative to the housing. The bearing assembly includes a first bearing section positioned between the housing and the seal element and a second bearing section positioned between a piston of the piston assembly and the seal element.

A leak detection system includes an annular housing that defines a bore, a constriction with the bore, and a channel extending radially-outwardly from the bore and positioned upstream of the constriction. The leak detection system also includes a sensor positioned outside of the bore and fluidly coupled to the channel, wherein the sensor is configured to detect a leaked fluid within the bore.

Leak detection systems and methods for components of a mineral extraction system

A system includes one or more processors configured to provide one or more control signals to cause supply of electric power from a power supply to one or more electric actuators.
