A digital service evaluation system evaluates services and user sessions provided by a service, to provide an overall score of the service. The digital service evaluation system detects client sessions associated with one or more devices. The digital service evaluation system obtains a first plurality of scores associated with performance metrics of the client session, and calculates an overall score for the client session. The digital service evaluation system obtains a second plurality of scores and calculates a second overall score. The digital service evaluation system determines a weight for each performance metric based on the first and second plurality of scores and the overall scores. The digital service evaluation system uses the weights to determine which performance metric caused a change in the overall scores. The digital service evaluation system takes an action based on the determination that a performance metric caused a change in the overall scores.

Systems and methods for automated evaluation of digital services

Various arrangements for integrating over-the-air (OTA) television programming with streaming media are presented. An OTA integration module may request, from an OTA tuner, a stream of an OTA television channel, wherein the OTA television channel is broadcast over a geographic region on the VHF band or UHF band. The OTA integration module may receive, from the OTA tuner, the stream of the OTA television channel. The OTA integration module may provide, to a media presentation application, the stream of the OTA television channel. The media presentation application executed by the streaming media player device may output the steam of the OTA television channel for presentation.

Over-the-air programming integration with over the top streaming services

Various arrangements for configuring wireless network access for a first wireless device using a previously-configured second wireless device are presented. The first wireless device may output a temporary wireless network hotspot and advertise an identifier. A second wireless device may search for and identify the based on the advertised identifier. The second wireless device may connect with the temporary wireless network hotspot and provide wireless network credentials for a wireless network for which the second wireless device has previously been granted access. The may then establish a network connection with the wireless network based on the wireless network credentials transmitted by the second wireless device.

Ecosystem-based wireless network setup

Various arrangements for integrating over-the-air (OTA) television programming with streaming media are presented. An OTA integration module may request, from an OTA tuner device, a stream of an OTA television channel, wherein the OTA television channel is broadcast over a geographic region on the VHF band or UHF band. The OTA integration module may receive, from the OTA tuner device, the stream of the OTA television channel. The OTA integration module may provide, to a media presentation application, the stream of the OTA television channel. The media presentation application executed by the streaming media player device may output the steam of the OTA television channel for presentation.

Applications executing on phones, tablets and other client devices can be designed to authenticate with network services, but reliably identifying a client device that is not previously known to the service can be difficult. A television receiver or other trusted device that is previously known to the service, however, can act as an intermediary for initially delivering the client's identifying data to the authentication service. After the authentication service has received reliable identifying information about the client from another trusted device, the service is able to directly authenticate the client device in subsequent transactions by requesting and verifying receipt of the same secret identifier.

Authentication through secure sharing of digital secrets previously established between devices

Before receiving an instruction from a media player to encode a media program, a placeshifting device or other video encoder pre-encodes at least a portion of the media program to a low-bandwidth format that can be readily transmitted to the media player upon request. When the media player does instruct the placeshifting device to encode the media program, the placeshifting device initially provides the pre-encoded portion of the media program to thereby allow the media player to begin immediate playback of the pre-encoded portion. After providing the preencoded portion of the media program, the placeshifting device live encodes the remaining portions of the media program according to then-current network conditions to thereby provide the placeshifted video stream to the media player.

Reducing latency for streaming video

Embodiments are directed towards presenting a current-playing-position marker on a progress bar along with real time content. An initial timeline value of the content may be determined, along with an initial presentation timestamp value for the first frame of the content. For each next frame of the content, a next timeline value may be determined based on a difference between a next presentation timestamp value for a corresponding next frame and the initial presentation timestamp value, and mapping of the next presentation timestamp value for the corresponding next frame and the next timeline value in the index file. The content and a progress bar may be displayed to the user on a remote device based on the index file. A position of the current-playing-position marker on the progress bar for each frame of the content may be determined based on the next timeline value for each corresponding frame.

Transmission of an open systems interconnection (osi) network protocol packet to at least one routing device between a computing device and a public network is repeated to learn a number of routing devices and an internet protocol (ip) address of each at least one routing device between a computing device and a public network. A routing device discovery protocol request is sent to each at least one routing device. A routing device discovery protocol response is received. A port forwarding instruction is sent to each at least one routing device based upon the routing device discovery protocol response to allow incoming content from the public network.

Zero configuration approach for port forwarding cascaded routers

A method of establishing a network connection between two nodes of a communication network via a connectionless transport layer communication protocol is presented. In the method, a plurality of data packets is exchanged between a first node and a second node. Each of the data packets comprises a header and a payload formatted according to the connectionless protocol. The connectionless protocol payload of the data packets includes a separate header comprising a first port indicator for the first node and a second port indicator for the second node. The separate header of at least one of the data packets includes an indication to establish a connection between the first node and the second node. In response to the exchange of data packets, the first and second nodes establish the connection, wherein the first port indicator and the second port indicator are associated with the established connection between the nodes.

Method and node for employing network connections over a connectionless transport layer protocol

A method of transmitting data over a communication network using negative acknowledgment is presented. In the method, a stream of data packets is transmitted from a first node of the network to a second node of the network. All but at least two of the stream of data packets is successfully received at the second node, wherein the data packets that are not successfully received are not located sequentially within the stream of data packets. A status packet is transmitted from the second node to the first node, wherein the status packet includes an indication of each of the data packets that were not successfully received. In response to receiving the status packet at the first node, the data packets that were not successfully received at the second node are retransmitted from the first node to the second node in response to receiving the status packet.

Method and node for transmitting data over a communication network using negative acknowledgment

A digital media player device includes, without limitation, a processor and a communication module coupled to the processor and configured to support data communication with a digital media place-shifting device. The processor and the communication module cooperate to attempt to establish data communication with the digital media place-shifting device in accordance with a connection mode sequence that identifies a plurality of different data communication modes supported by the digital media player device, until one of the plurality of different data communication modes can be used to initiate a data communication session between the digital media player device and the digital media place-shifting device. The processor and the communication module also cooperate to perform data communication with the digital media place-shifting device, using the one of the plurality of different data communication modes.

Connection priority services for data communication between two devices

A method of establishing a network connection between two nodes of a communication network via a connectionless transport layer communication protocol is presented. In the method, a plurality of data packets is exchanged between a first node and a second node. Each of the data packets comprises a header and a payload formatted according to the connectionless protocol. The connectionless protocol payload of each of the data packets includes a separate header comprising a first port indicator for the first node and a second port indicator for the second node. The separate header of at least one of the data packets also includes an indication to establish a connection between the first node and the second node. In response to the exchange of data packets, the first and second nodes establish the connection, wherein the first port indicator and the second port indicator are associated with the established connection between the nodes.

One embodiment may take the form of a system for translating an audio stream of programming content. The system may include an apparatus, a processing unit configured to execute a voice recognition algorithm and one or more executable commands, a receiver coupled to the processing unit and configured to receive a voice command in a first language, a communication component coupled to the processing unit and configured to receive programming content including an audio stream in a second language, and one or more storage media storing the voice recognition algorithm. The voice recognition algorithm may be configured to translate the audio stream into a first language if the first language does not match the second language.
