This invention relates to a liquid or soft-solid personal cleansing composition that utilises the detergency properties of new materials which are more efficient, more inexpensive and are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional soaps or synthetic surfactants. It more particularly relates to a cleansing composition in liquid, gel or cream formats. The present invention provides for a personal cleansing composition comprising (i) 1 to 50% of treated clay particles; and (ii) a cosmetically acceptable base; wherein said treated clay particles are asymmetric 1:1 or 2:1:1 clay particles having alternating tetrahedral and octahedral sheets terminating with a tetrahedral sheet at one external surface plane and an octahedral sheet at another external surface plane, with a fatty acid of carbon chain length 10 to 22 attached to coordinating cation on one of said exterior surface planes.

A detergent bar is made by (1) applying pressure to a detergent composition to deliver it to a substantially closed mold at a temperature less than 70&deg; C.; (2) ensuring the pressure on the composition at point of entry is greater than 29.4 psi under the action of an injector head for at least part of the time over which the composition enters the mold; (3) cooling in the mold to form bar; and (4) removing.

Aerated, ultra low-density cast-dehydrated syndet detergent bars for use in personal wash, fabric wash and hard surface cleaning. A process for preparing aerated, ultra low-density cast-dehydrated detergent bars wherein the air is entrained in the bars after rigidification and shaping the product is also provided.

The invention provides a process for the manufacture of soap forms which includes the step of treating a soap feedstock by passage through a twin screw, intermeshing, counter-rotating extruder and apparatus for the manufacture of soap forms according to the process, said apparatus containing a twin screw, intermeshing, counter-rotating extruder, wherein the extruder includes two oppositely-threaded, closely intermeshing screws, the screws being non-matching and such that the ratio of the length to the diameter is greater than 1:1, mounted for rotation within a barrel having a first end and a second end, said screws having a minimal screw-to-screw and screw to barrel clearance such that as the feedstock passes along at least a part of the barrel from said first end and towards said second end it is divided into a plurality of discrete, substantially C-shaped segments bounded by the screw and barrel surfaces and conveyed in a path whereby the bulk of the feedstock move substantially parallel to the rotational axis of the screws.
