A method and system for autostereoscopic display of stereoscopic images may include: illuminating at least one light source; configuring a lightguide to direct light from at least one light source to a first focal point; configuring a transmissive optical display according to a first stereoscopic image of a stereoscopic image pair; configuring the lightguide to direct light from at least one light source to a second focal point; and configuring the transmissive optical display according to a second stereoscopic image of the stereoscopic image pair.

Autostereoscopic display

A stereoscopic display for displaying 3D images in the form of a stereo image pair. The stereoscopic display may include, but is not limited to, a display panel, a polarization layer, and an electro-optical panel. The display panel may include at least a first pixel and a second pixel. The polarization layer may include a first portion associated with the first pixel and a second portion associated with the second pixel.

Full-resolution single-LCD stereoscopic display

A display apparatus may include, but is not limited to: an image display device; and a fiber optic plate disposed over a display surface of the image display device. A method for displaying images may include, but is not limited to: generating an image on a display device; receiving light corresponding to the image at a fiber optic plate; and reducing at least one of luminance asymmetry, luminance non-uniformity, and color shift across a viewing angle of the image display device according to a configuration of the fiber optic plate. A method for displaying images may include, but is not limited to: generating a stereoscopic image on a display device; receiving light corresponding to the stereoscopic image at a fiber optic plate; and reducing at least one of luminance asymmetry, luminance non-uniformity, and color shift across a viewing angle and may also reduce/eliminate reverse-stereoscopic effects in the stereoscopic image according to a configuration of the fiber optic plate.

Optical enhancement using fiber optic faceplates

An image display device may include a fiber optic plate. The fiber optic plate may comprise a plurality of parallel optical fibers, the terminal ends of the optical fibers combining to define a light input surface and an at least partially concave light output surface. An apparatus may include: a fiber optic plate; and a mechanism for affixing the fiber optic plate to a display device. A method for manufacturing a fiber optic plate may include: computing one or more viewing angles between one or more elements of an image display and a focal point; and shaping a fiber optic plate output surface according to the one or more viewing angles.

Directionalizing fiber optic plate

An electrically activated infrared filter utilizes a mixture of infrared absorbing dyes in liquid crystal which normally presents a substantial cross section of dye to absorb the infrared component of impinging light. Polarizing light to be parallel to the direction of liquid crystal alignment enhances the absorption of infrared components. In an alternative embodiment, a chiral additive to the liquid crystal solution increases the dye cross section density which, by absorption, attenuates a higher proportion of the infrared wavelengths. A predetermined voltage differential across the cell aligns the liquid crystal and dye molecules to the voltage gradient, presenting a substantially non-absorptive path to the infrared components of impinging light.
