In some examples, a network device includes an interface, and a processor to apply a restriction on multicast communication associated with an entity on the interface. The restriction on multicast communication includes detecting, on the interface, a multicast communication pattern associated with the entity, indicating, based on the multicast communication pattern on the interface violating a threshold, that the entity is malicious, and blocking processing of the multicast communication associated with the entity in response to indicating that the entity is malicious.

Indicating malicious entities based on multicast communication patterns

Some examples relate to auto-configuration of a parameter related to a multicast protocol on a network device. In an example, a network device in a multicast network may identify the network topology of the multicast network. Upon identification, the network device may enable a multicast protocol on the network device based on the network topology of the multicast network. The network device may determine a network parameter related to the multicast network. In response to the determination, a multicast parameter related to the multicast protocol may be auto-configured on the network device.

Auto-configuring multicast protocol parameters

In one example, a system is described which includes an underlay network including a mapping server and a mapping database, an overlay network including VTEPs, at least one peripheral device, and at least one client device connected to the at least one peripheral device via the VTEPs. Further, each VTEP includes a traffic optimization module. A first VTEP receives a first service advertisement from a first peripheral device offering the first service and registers service advertisement information with the mapping database, a second VTEP connected to a first client device queries the mapping database to discover the first peripheral device via a unicast message, retrieves the service advertisement information from the mapping database upon a successful query, and sends the retrieved service advertisement information to the first client device, and the first client device selects the first peripheral device offering the first service using the service advertisement information.

A system and method for delivering multicast/broadcast data frames, originating in a service virtual local area network (S-VLAN), to a plurality of locations on a customer network is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for delivering multicast/broadcast data frames includes analyzing ingress data frames, including customer virtual local area network identifiers (C-VIDs) associated with one or more divisions within one of a plurality of locations assigned by a customer network, received via incoming ports of each Ethernet switch associated with one of the plurality of locations and learning the C-VIDs of the ingress data frames, storing the learnt C-VIDs in the Ethernet switch, and forwarding the multicast/broadcast data frames to the one or more of the plurality of locations, via one or more outgoing ports of one or more of multiple Ethernet switches associated with the plurality of locations, based on the learnt and stored C-VIDs by each Ethernet switch.
