In some embodiments, a method stores a plurality of requests for routes in a queue based on respective priorities for the routes. The plurality of requests are for programming destinations and next hops for the destinations in a route table that is used by a device in a network to route packets. The method selects a request for a route from the queue based on a respective priority for the queue. Then, the request for the route is sent to an entity to program the route in the route table.

Some embodiments provide a method that configures a virtual datacenter that includes a set of workloads executing on hosts in a public cloud and an edge gateway executing on a particular host for handling data traffic between the workloads and different external entities having different sets of network addresses. The method configures a router to execute on the particular host to route data messages between the edge gateway and an underlay network of the public cloud. The router has at least two different interfaces for exchanging data messages with the edge gateway, each router interface corresponding to an interface of the edge gateway. The edge gateway interfaces enable the edge gateway to perform different sets of services on data messages between the workloads and the external entities. The method configures the router to route traffic received from the external entities and addressed to the workloads based on source network addresses.

Source-based routing for virtual datacenters

Some embodiments provide a novel method for configuring managed forwarding elements (MFEs) to handle data messages for multiple logical networks that are implemented in a data center at the MFEs and to provide gateway service processing (e.g., firewall, DNS, etc.). A controller, in some embodiments, identifies logical networks implemented in the datacenter and MFEs available to provide gateway service processing and assigns gateway service processing for each logical network to a particular MFE. The MFEs, in some embodiments, receive data messages from endpoints in the logical networks that are destined for an external network. In some embodiments, the MFEs identify that the data messages require gateway service processing before being sent to the external network. The MFEs, in some embodiments, identify a particular MFE that is assigned to provide the gateway service processing for logical networks associated with the data messages.
