A particle separator includes a housing through which a flow stream is directed. A number of guide vanes are disposed in the housing. The guide vanes have a profile wherein the flow stream is guided to follow the profile. The guide vanes have a wall surrounding an open interior that defines a vane plenum. A plurality of through-holes extend through the wall of the guide vane. The through-holes are open to the flow stream and to the vane plenum. A duct connects with the vane plenum and is configured to discharge particles collected in the vane plenum.

Self refreshing particle separator

A turbine component includes a hot wall, a cold wall spaced apart from the hot wall and a conduit defined between the hot wall and the cold wall. A cooling system is defined in the conduit. The cooling system includes a plurality of cooling pins, each including a first end having a first cross-sectional area and a second end having a second cross-sectional area. Each cooling pin includes a body extending between the first end and the second end, with a pin leading edge defined along the body from the first end to the second end. The pin leading edge is defined by a first diameter and a pin trailing edge is defined by a second diameter. At least one first cooling pin has the first end coupled to the hot wall and the second end coupled to the cold wall with a fillet.

Turbine component with dust tolerant cooling system

A particle separator includes a housing defining an inlet and an outlet. A flow stream is directed from the inlet to the outlet. A number of dividers are disposed in the housing and separate flow channels from each other. The flow channels extend from the inlet to the outlet. The dividers each have a profile so that the flow channels follow the profile. The dividers each include a plurality of cavities that open to each of the flow channels and that have blind ends. The cavities each have an aspect ratio greater than one, and are configured to collect particles from the flow stream.

Turbine blade airfoils, film cooling systems thereof, and methods for forming improved film cooled components are provided. The turbine blade airfoil has an external wall surface and comprises leading and trailing edges, pressure and suction sidewalls both extending between the leading and the trailing edges, an internal cavity, one or more isolation trenches in the external wall surface, a plurality of film cooling holes arranged in cooling rows, and a plurality of span-wise surface connectors interconnecting the outlets of the film cooling holes in the same cooling row to form a plurality of rows of interconnected film cooling holes. Each film cooling hole has an inlet connected to the internal cavity and an outlet opening onto the external wall surface. The span-wise surface connectors in at least one selected row of interconnected film cooling holes are disposed in the one or more isolation trenches.

Turbine blade airfoils including film cooling systems, and methods for forming an improved film cooled airfoil of a turbine blade

Turbine blade airfoils, showerhead film cooling systems thereof, and methods for cooling the turbine blade airfoils using the same are provided. The airfoil has a leading edge and a trailing edge, a pressure sidewall and a suction sidewall both extending between the leading and the trailing edges, and an internal cavity for supplying cooling air. A showerhead of film cooling holes is connected to the internal cavity. Each film cooling hole has an inlet connected to the internal cavity and an outlet opening onto an external wall surface at the leading edge of the airfoil. A plurality of surface connectors is formed in the external wall surface. Each surface connector of the plurality of surface connectors interconnects the outlets of at least one selected pair of the film cooling holes.
