An axial flux motor water pump comprising a housing, a cover attached to the housing, a stator mounted within the housing, the stator comprising a plurality of stator poles mounted in a ring, each stator pole comprising an electric wire winding, a rotor journaled to the housing in cooperating relation to the stator on a single bearing, an impeller fixed to an end of the rotor, a plurality of magnets mounted to an end of the rotor in cooperative relation to the stator poles, a seal between the rotor and housing whereby the stator and magnets are in a dry zone, the stator enrobed in thermal potting within the housing; and power electronics contained in the cover. The rotor portion of the rotor may be manufactured in a sintering process.

Permanent magnet rotor for an axial flux motor

A rotary valve seal for a coolant control valve is provided that offers improved sealing with a rotary valve body. The rotary valve seal includes a central axis, a cylindrical seal body, and a seal skeleton. The cylindrical seal body has a first stiffness and a first end that is configured with a radially outwardly extending flange. The seal skeleton, having a second stiffness and embedded within the cylindrical seal body, has a plurality of fingers circumferentially arranged within the flange. The second stiffness can be greater than the first stiffness. The plurality of fingers and flange can define alternating stiffness zones. The first end of the seal body and the flange define a bottom surface configured for sealing engagement with a rotary valve body. The rotary valve body can be shaped in the form of at least one spherical segment.

Seal for coolant control valve

In one embodiment, a thermal management module is disclosed that includes: a housing defining a plurality of ports and at least one camshaft opening, the housing defining at least one chamber; a camshaft extending through the at least one camshaft opening into the chamber, the camshaft including a plurality of cams; a plurality of seal assemblies each surrounding a respective port of the plurality of ports; and a plurality of stoppers each arranged with a respective port of the plurality of ports. In one aspect, at least one port of the plurality of ports includes a guidance finger adapted to guide a respective stopper of the plurality of stoppers. In another aspect, openings defined by at least two ports of the plurality of ports overlap in an axial direction of the openings.

Cam actuated coolant control valve

A coolant control valve for an internal combustion engine, including: a housing; a rotary valve disposed within the housing, the rotary valve including an axis of rotation and an end stop extending in a radial direction toward the axis of rotation; and a resilient element connected to the housing. In a circumferential position of the rotary valve about the axis of rotation: a circle, centered on the axis of rotation, passes through the resilient element and the end stop; and the end stop is in contact with the resilient element.

Coolant control valve with load-limiting end stop arrangement

A coolant control valve is provided that has an outer housing, an actuator, and a fluid flow metering rotary valve body actuated by the actuator. The rotary valve body includes a rotational axis and at least one lobe having a fluid opening. The fluid opening has a first width and a first end. The first width is configured for a first contact face having a first sealing diameter. At least one first support land extends from the first end. The at least one first support land is configured to support a second contact face having a second sealing diameter, the second sealing diameter smaller than the first width.

Compact rotary valve body for coolant control valve

A modular electro-mechanical rotary valve (EMRV) designed to be installed and removed as a unit is provided. The modular EMRV includes a valve enclosure, at least one rotary valve body with at least one fluid pathway, and an actuator assembly. The valve enclosure, removably disposed within a mating cavity, includes at least one inlet, at least one outlet, and a hollow center. At least one of the at least one inlet or the at least one outlet is configured with at least one exterior seal interface to sealingly engage with at least one interior seal interface of the mating cavity. The actuator assembly, engaged with an actuator interface of the at least one rotary valve body, rotationally actuates the at least one rotary valve body disposed within the hollow center of the valve enclosure.

Modular electro-mechanical rotary valve with activated seal interface

A coolant pump with an integrated shaft bearing (ISB) assembly is provided. The ISB has a bearing housing, and at least one bearing located therein supports a shaft. A bearing seal is connected to the bearing housing at a first axial end and contacts the shaft, and a vent cover is also located at the first axial end to define a vent space between it and the bearing seal. A seal assembly is located between the shaft and the vent cover. A vent insert is located in the vent space and connected for rotation with the shaft. Venting air enters via a vent space inlet connected to the vent space, and is exhausted by a vent space outlet. A generally annular collection cavity is located inside the vent space and connected to the vent space outlet. This allows for active purging of condensate or coolant leakage to protect the bearing.

An axial, through-shaft actuator that is particularly useful for a variably actuatable water pump having a pump chamber, with an inlet and an outlet is provided. A hollow drive shaft extends into the pump chamber. A drive wheel is connected to the drive shaft. A variable flow impeller assembly having an impeller part connected to the drive shaft and a cover part, which is axially movable relative to the impeller part is located in the pump chamber and is movable from a first, pumping position to a second position to prevent pumping. A cup actuator assembly is axially movable on the hollow drive shaft, and includes an actuator plate and a pin extending through the hollow drive shaft that connects the axially movable impeller part and the actuator plate. An actuator displaces the actuator plate in the axial direction of the drive shaft to move the axially movable part.

In a first circumferential position for the rotary valve, a first circle, centered on the axis of rotation, passes through the resilient element and the end stop.

Coolant control valve with load-limiting end stop arrangement and method of operating a coolant control valve

An integrated shaft bearing assembly is provided having a housing with at least one bearing located in the housing that supports a shaft that extends through the housing. A vent ring is located at one axial end of the housing, with the vent ring having a radial flange that extends toward the shaft. A face seal assembly including a seal support ring is fixed on the shaft. The face seal assembly includes a bellows spring connected to the seal support ring, a face seal carrier connected to the bellows spring, with the face seal carrier supporting a face seal against the face of the radial flange. Here the vent ring is integrated with the integrated shaft bearing and provides a surface for the mechanical seal as well as venting to avoid pressure build up in a region of the mechanical seal between the mechanical seal and the bearing.

An integrated switchable shaft bearing having an inner ring, a circumferentially extending clutch groove, and axially extending cam pin openings. An outer ring is located about the inner ring, and rolling elements are located therebetween. A clutch ring with clutch fingers is located in the clutch groove. Cam pins are located in pin openings and extend beneath the clutch fingers. An actuator moves the cam pins from an engaged position, where cam portions each engage a respective one of the clutch fingers forcing it outwardly above a race surface of the inner ring into engagement with the rolling elements to transfer torque from the outer ring to the inner ring, to a released position, in which cam pins are disengaged from the clutch fingers, which move beneath the race surface of the inner ring so that the outer ring is rotatable relative to the inner ring via the rolling elements.
