Enhanced opportunistic mobile receive diversity for dual-SIM dual-active mobile device

Presented herein are methods and apparatuses for improved control of cross divert functionality in dual-SIM dual-standby (DSDS) wireless devices. According to example methods and apparatuses presented herein, a dual-SIM dual-standby device may receive a command to exit cross-divert mode, obtain a first phone number associated with a first subscription on the DSDS device and a second phone number associated with a second subscription on the DSDS device as a result of receiving the command, enable and/or disable Call Forward Not Reachable services for both the first subscription and the second subscription, activate and/or deactivate call waiting services associated with each of the first subscription and the second subscription, and forward a call from one subscription to another subscription of the DSDS device. As such, less user-intensive control of cross divert in DSDS devices is attainable.

Apparatus and methods for implementing dual-SIM cross-divert in DSDS wireless devices

A mobile station accesses a base station by randomly selecting a first reverse link common control channel from a set of random access channels. The mobile station transmits a request portion of an access probe over the first reverse link common control channel. The request portion is subject to collision with other signals. The request portion comprises a hash identification which is derived from a uniquely identifying number using a hash function. The hash identification quasi-uniquely identifies the mobile station. The mobile station receives a channel assignment message from the base station designating the hash identification and a reserved access channel. The reserved access channel provides communication with a low probability of contention. The mobile station transmits a message portion of the access probe over the reserved access channel.

Reservation multiple access

Various schemes for performing inter-system handoff, e.g., from a UTRAN to a cdma2000 radio access network (RAN) are described. For a MAHHO scheme, the UTRAN uses measurements obtained by a multi-RAT device to determine suitable cdma2000 cell(s) for handover. The measurements are obtained by a candidate frequency search procedure, and the handover is accomplished by a handoff execution procedure. For a MDHHO scheme, the UTRAN relies on location information for the multi-RAT device to select suitable cdma2000 cell(s) for handover. For a CRHHO scheme, a new call is established on the cdma2000 RAN and the pending call on the UTRAN is released in a manner such that the handover appears seamless to the multi-RAT device. The multi-RAT device includes two modem processors that perform processing for the UTRAN and cdma2000 RAN and an application processor that controls the modem processors.

Inter-system handoff between wireless communication networks of different radio access technologies

Reverse link flow control in a high data rate network determines current reverse link data channel rates for access terminals served by a network sector to identify corresponding defined channel gains, which are used to rapidly and reliably estimate total sector interference on the reverse link. Total sector interference indicates reverse link capacity utilization, and when remaining capacity approaches a defined threshold, the sector sets an activity indicator to a busy state indicating reverse link congestion. This action causes at least some access terminals to reduce their reverse link data channel rate. Interference calculation techniques preferably involve baseband digital processing using defined channel gains, permitting rapid evaluation of reverse link capacity and quick, reliable activity indicator updating, which increases reverse link capacity utilization. These techniques may be applied to inter-sector control, wherein the reverse activity indicator status for one sector depends on interference in one or more other sectors.

Fast flow control methods for communication networks

Establishment of a forward link traffic channel between one or more candidate base stations and a mobile station considers forward link quality such that the initial transmit power is set to a level that achieves a desired received signal quality at the mobile station. With this approach, the initial transmit power is set to a mobile-specific power level rather than to a default initial transmit power level. That is, the open loop transmit power control that sets traffic channel power at the outset of a call, or under certain handoff scenarios, uses knowledge of forward link channel loss and interference to set initial transmit power for the traffic channel to the level needed to achieve the target signal quality at the mobile station. Such knowledge is gained from receiving pilot signal measurements for the candidate base stations from the mobile station, which measurements may be improved in accuracy by compensating them for base station loading.

Mobile station assisted forward link open loop power and rate control in a CDMA system

In a communication network based on the TIA/EIA/IS-856 standard, or in other network types where forward link power control is desirable but where no reverse link channel or sub-channel to direct such power control is available, forward link rate request information from an access terminal may be used to infer carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratios at the access terminal. Such information allows the network to control power for the forward link channel of interest. In a TIA/EIA/IS-856 setting, the network uses DRC channel information from the access terminal to set RPC channel power transmitted to the access terminal from one or more sectors in the network. That is, radio base stations within the network may determine C/I or like values for active access terminals using DRC channel information from those terminals and calculated needed RPC channel power accordingly. This process may be extended to include access control procedures.

RPC channel power control in a HDR network

A call admission policy is provided that has a dynamic operating point setting desired load levels for data calls and for voice calls. A request for a first call admission may be granted even though the desired load levels are exceeded if there is sufficient power to admit at least one additional second call, wherein the first call is selected form the group of data or voice calls and the second call is the remaining type of call within the group.

Dynamic call admission

A maximum suspension time defines the length of time that an access terminal may suspend communication with a supporting radio network before the network releases the communication resources assigned to the access terminal. In some environments, it may be necessary for the access terminal to momentarily suspend communication with a first radio network, so that it can briefly communicate with a second radio network. For example, the access terminal may briefly suspend a packet data connection with a packet data network to maintain its registration on a voice/data network. Upon completing communication with the second network, the access terminal resumes communication with the first network using the previously assigned communication channels, if the suspension time is less than the maximum suspension time. If the actual time of suspension exceeds the maximum allowed, the access terminal requests a new connection with the first radio network.
