A process for the preparation of a composition comprising the cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12 isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) comprises: providing a mixture comprising cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12 isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in which one of the cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12 isomers is present in a first weight ratio X of at least 1.3:1 with respect to the other isomer; and subjecting the mixture to crystallization to form a composition comprising the cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12 isomers in which one of the cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12 isomers is present at a second weight ratio Y with respect to the other isomer, wherein Y is greater than X.

Process for producing isomer enriched conjugated linoleic acid compositions

A process for producing a conjugated di- or poly- unsaturated fatty acid having from 12 to 24 carbon atoms, or a salt or ester thereof, comprises reacting a non-conjugated free fatty acid, or a salt or ester thereof, with a base in the presence of a solvent comprising a monohydric alcohol having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature of from 120&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C. in the presence of water in an amount of at least 4% by weight based on alcohol.

Process for producing a conjugated di- or poly-unsaturated fatty acid of 12 to 24 carbon atoms or salt or ester thereof

The invention is concerned with esters from conjugated linoleic acid and a food allowable alcohol from the group of terpene alcohols and sesquiterpene alcohols. These esters have good taste and display the health effects from the conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) part and from the food allowable alcohol part of the molecule.

The invention concerns an isomerisation process, wherein materials comprising non-congugated long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are subjected to base in the presence of an alcohol with &gE;3 C-atoms and &gE;2 OH groups and having ratio C-atoms: OH-groups of &gE;1.25. The resulting reaction product, containing the conjugated isomers is obtained in higher yield at lower temperatures and are not contaminated by presence of non food grade solvent.

Production of materials rich in conjugated isomers of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid residues

Production of materials rich in conjugated isomers of long chain

PUFA mixtures containing different isomers with at least two conjugated unsaturations, including trans-10 double bonds can be enriched in the trans-10 isomers by subjecting the mixture to an enzymic conversion in the presence of an enzyme with trans-10 specificity followed by separation of the reaction mixture and isolation of the enriched product.
